I opened 2 smurf accounts

So I opened two smurf accounts, not to boost my ego and steam roll lobbies, but more so to better understand, or at least try to understand, as to why my main account has been such a chore when it comes to SBMM as of late.

First off, my main stats aren’t anything special, i’m a solo queue player since S1, consider myself a smarter rotational player, I'll play for position over the “w” key meta in rank, typically win my 1v1's, but can't squad wipe after both teammates insta die.

As for the smurf accounts, I tried to play both as a new player would, hence hitting 4 or 5 bullets out of an extended level 3 mag, or going in a CQC scenario with a charge riffle.

I’ve always heard “player retention” was an important factor in SBMM, but for the life of me can’t understand why i’m going up against masters/preds, when i’m a sub level 30 “noob” on a new account playing mediocrely.

Here are a few players I was going up against, again, sub level 30 playing like crap.

That being said, here are a few of my teammates;

In many of these situations, I was told to go back to Fortnite, to git gud, that I was trash, they were mostly frustrated, and didn’t care to babysit me, and to be fair, I can't blame them.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, getting steam rolled by these players, isn’t what I call a fun time for new players, I'd even have a hard time myself on my OG account when facing these 3 time pred badge players.

All in all, fun little experiment, and truthfully, I'm not sure what the equation is for SBMM, but imo, it needs a major rework. I also now better understand as to why I'm getting matched with new to the game players on my main account.

  • Might be that smurf accounts seem to get "properly" matched now?

    @XHelperZ That is far fetched, but a possibility, wouldn't be fair to families with multiple accounts playing Apex.

    @Gabrielmojo26  I'm guessing, but if you don't use VPN, EA probably bounds any account on the same IP as a singular player entity. And yes, this might be not so fair for families, but I also think that most preds are single guys, living alone and do nothing else but play Apex. I mean, if you have like 150000 kills, like that Octane, then pffff... talking about an Apex obsession. Would daddy still have time for kids?

    Never actually thought of that, that’s kinda interesting. One can only wonder.
