Instead Of Levelling Up from 100...

How about adding player tiers? Every 500 or 1000 levels, players go up a tier and receive a legendary item of their choice. Badges could have some fancy frames, showing the tiers with stars or with roman numbers, and the levels with smaller digits (so that "999" doesn't spill).

Level up rewards can still be limited, like introducing a limited number of packs every season or year. Each pack would be obtained after 4-5 levels. In the main screen, there could be a pack counter, displaying the number of packs obtained & unopened / remaining number of packs to be unlocked.

It just feels weird to me to start going up from level 100, although I'm over 400 on various trackers. It's not like I stopped playing when reaching the cap, I actually gained a lot of experience in the months after. Besides, there's hardly any better way to show your true game wisdom than a level badge and many of us miss it in Apex because of the cap. Also, a level 100 player with 20.000+ kills will likely be reported as a cheater by many, so most veterans will probably ignore the badges.

  • @DoYaSeeMe The current level cap in game is 100. Whatever level over that you think you are is not your real level. XP is still earned and all that, but levels are no longer tracked in game after 100. I like the way they are doing it, gives those of us that would have been well over 100 something to work toward.
  • @SixthOTDI have nothing against getting more stuff to grind for and what I proposed goes well beyond their new 500 cap which is still low. The idea of capping the level of experience just doesn't work for me. I'm gaining experience every hour I play this game and I need the level to actually reflect that. I don't know any better badge or tracker to reflect game "wisdom" and it just doesn't make sense to cap an experience indicator because of limited rewards.

  • TL;DR We're not a full year into this games life cycle yet. I fully expect that they will raise the cap further at some point.

Every change that Respawn does, they do as an incentive to bring players back in at a later point. It's the same reason that you can expect them to keep removing and reintroducing content that we've already seen. It's also the reason the store is constantly in rotation, instead of working how you would expect a store to work.

They've nurtured a playerbase that mostly needs a consistent flow of rewards to keep playing, and scarcity is one of the tools at EA/Respawns disposal. It was probably less about deciding that 500 is enough for most people, and more about deciding that +500 won't help their profits in the short run.

If hitting level 100 took a lot more time than it actually did, less people would have been excited for this change. The typical player wouldn't care until after they reached the original cap. Make no mistake this change is motivated by marketing, not raw, unconditional generosity.

They will wait until this new cap has been reached by a significant number of people (i.e. people with jobs, not just the hardcore) and they will likely raise again.

@cooperal1012 to me it feels like keeping apex predators at gold level, until they bring new stuff to reward ranking up. Anyway, the existence of the feedback topic makes me think that they want to see the community vibe about new charms and about resuming leveling up from 101. They thought about something simple to buy more time for fixing the serious issues and developing new events, legends, skins and perhaps new weapons and maps.
