Is it me or is Control a really poorly designed mode?

90% of matches are decided in the first minute by which team picked more fast legends to get to B first.

Usually only one (maybe two) loadouts are actually used out of what's offered.

Not even light SBMM, so one player on each team will be in high double digits while everyone else in the match has yet to crack 5 kills.

All the fighting happens around the B point chokes, which heavily favour the defenders.

Backcapping works less and less because players are getting wise to it and setting up Pathfinder ziplines between homebase and B so that they can respond in under 15 seconds.

The capture point bonuses only serve to accelerate the winning team's victory, since they have a 2/3 chance to already have the selected zone under their control.

Respawn beacons are usually just kill farms for the top players unless a team coordinates dying enough to all spawn at the same time.

All of these things just make for very one-sided matches 9 times out of 10. I say this as someone who is regularly on winning as well as losing teams.

@7ldqabhnqphg I regulary play Control and have had only like 5 matches in my life where the team that was losing at the begging won at the end.

I think that most of the issues (at least those that annoyed me the most) stem from the fact that we have a team made of 3 squads that cannot talk to each other. While playing Bloohound I'd go mad from tracking someone just to realise I was tailing some teammate that wasn't on my squad
  • @7ldqabhnqphg All the fight is around B because people tend to be stupid. It's much easier to take A or C from the enemy to make them spawn in their own base and then take B. Unfortunately 80% of the player base lacks intelligence so they will just attach B getting slaughtered every time. Solve this and you'll have much more entertaining games.

  • @7ldqabhnqphg I think the core issues in the mode relates to the maps, MM and people not playing objectives.

Let's look at the maps- All of them have a middle location that if held properly is impossible to take over unless someone on your team takes their base and cuts them off. This is made even harder because as you are trying to take B, the people you kill spawn directly behind you and then kill you. This is really bad on caustic treatment and barometer. Spawns should only happen as far as the home base.

MM problems are shown in how unbalanced teams are. People that have no idea what they are doing shouldn't be fighting preds.

People not playing the objective and just running about randomly in the open fighting are also a huge factor. It feels like every game there are at least 2 or 3 on the team that do this. Unfortunately because there are no rewards for playing the objective people treat it as a tdm.

I'll say this though. When two evenly matched teams face off and it comes down to less than a 1% difference the match feels incredible. I've also been on plenty of teams that make awesome comebacks. I will not play caustic treatment. It is the least balanced map of all of them.
  • @hayhor core issue of the gameplay is they added a leavers penalty, so instead of playing it until it stops being fun / waiting for friends it's like OH NO I'M PRETEND RANKED MODE except... the matchmaking is crap and when you know it's * then it doesn't want to let you move to a better lobby.
  • Another bad thing recently encountered is the respawn failed upon certain capture points near the dropship, some of them won't let you respawn at them and so you have to start all the way at the back and then you have the other team or people who spawn on the actual points.

The other issue is when players just randomly quit and so it makes things more of a pain, they could replace it with unshielded and at least that is more fun, as everyone is working for the same goal unless you get a bot or a afk player or someone who quits.

Don't agree. That Yampolsky guy literally saved Apex with this mode. At that time, when this was just a LTM repeated throughout a given season, all the choices we had were between Arenas and Fragment mode. 🤡

He even made a mode where Lifeline was viable. That the new person in charge of the mode then decided to do what Respawn usually do to Lifeline and nerf the bahookie out of her... 🤡

The newly added respawn failure bugs and the removal of auto shield regen, naturally destroys the mode though.

The things that annoy me are:

The game's too short for all the respawn beacons, care packages, and bonuses, that you have to pick up at the edge of the map. Either put it where people actually are or move through, or prolong the game. The bonus should always be on A/C of the team trailing, so it'll give that team a chance and incentive to stay in the game.

Other than that, there's always some tweaks here and there you can do to this mode, and any other mode, as new (and mostly dumb) stuff is added to the game.
