@DaDeDimson No the system rewards position more than kills, which is fine imo. But it's not good for lower ranks since people tend to push early either way. From Plat and above i think it's a good system.
@KelRiever You can't use the same system for ranked and competitive (two completely different modes of the game).
- hayhor3 years agoHero@Cro_Pittt Why can't you use the algs system for ranked? Has anyone ever done serious math to compare? Why does an algs team that finishes 8th but has 9 kills have the 3rd most points in the lobby but in current ranked they get jack squat? It doesn't make sense.
- Lord_Scorpion343 years agoLegend@Cro_Pittt How are you ok with this? IMO it doesn't really promote team play cuz when my team is making stupid pushes, I'm shaking my head & going the other way. At least with the old system if you hit dropped or pushed early you could soften the blow if losing RP with a kill or assist. This new system it's like why even risk engaging early?
1 game there were 8 squads left in a round 4 ring! It's usually 4 or 5 by then if that. Especially in WE where a 3rd of the lobby dies in Frag in 1 min. - 3 years ago
@Cro_Pitt Actually, you CAN
But, what game companies WON'T do is do that. Because, you know, an ALGS tournament is supposed to be fair
And your ranked climb is supposed to be unfair to make you log in over and over and over and over and over and over again.
In NO system, should you place above half your peers at your same supposed skill level and DROP rank. That is blatantly stupid.
And yet, ever since day 1, this ranked system does that. In fact, you could beat 75% of your peers or more in many ranks and still lose RP.
Why that is, apart from being completely idiotic, is because your average player is a Kool Aid drinking fanboi who wants to believe that somehow secretly ranked play A) matters more than a regular game and, B) won't admit to it but thinks both they themselves are a super undiscovered great player and, C) when they do finally grind to predator, they will be discovered and let into the halls of esports somehow.
The reason, in Apex, most people start ranked though, is to climb, and because somehow people take it more seriously than regular play because there are consequences for quitting. Over time, you find out both end up not being reasons anymore. First is because people still play stupidly, whether they quit or not so no, they don't take the game more seriously. And second, no, you don't get to climb anywhere. You get to repeat fail and smurf your way back.
I'm not down on you @Cro_Pittt , but I'm down on that it's been explained but people just don't want to believe that somehow the ranked system, which of course was just copied mostly by Respawn, not invented by them, is a massive failure. It's only been made more obvious and worse with the new changes. You're right in one regard, there are two systems. One is fun and only a limited people get to play it, and that's the ALGS. The other is shet and the only one available to the public.

The description of the "Kool Aid drinking fanboi" brought me immense joy and an audible chuckle. Kudos.
"The reason, in Apex, most people start ranked though, is to climb...." It is true that this is why most people play ranked. It's also completely wrong-headed. Ranked is not a ladder you can climb. It's a description of where you are as a player according to the arbitrary criteria the developer decides to use. I'm not saying that players can't improve over time, but we all have a ceiling and most ranked players simply can't acknowledge that basic truth. Hence all the bellyaching over bad teammates, bad ranking system, bad developer, bad whatever they need to be bad in order for the problem to be something other than themselves. Hence this thread. - reconzero3 years agoSeasoned Ace@KelRiever
Oh, and I also want to touch on this briefly:
"One is fun and only a limited people get to play it, and that's the ALGS. The other is shet and the only one available to the public."
Yup, one set of rules for the 1%, another set for the rest of us. But given that incontrovertible truth, why is that people don't just play pubs and allow their "wins" and their "games played." both of which can be put on a banner, to serve as a "rank?" How is win-rate any less of a descriptor of ability or any less of a bragging point? Why do people insist on allowing developers to screw with their heads with ranking systems people seldom understand and even less often like? - hayhor3 years agoHero@KelRiever Outside of a bit of harsh callouts you are completely right on this one.

I've posted this video before when discussing ranked ladder systems. While it doesn't address the question at the heart of this thread, hopefully it might help someone who's feeling down in their mental about how their ranked experience is going.
