The lower you TTK, the more reduce “defense” as a dimension of skill. Defense can be considered a player’s ability to strafe and a player’s ability to respond quickly (turn on) an opponent who sees you first.
The most extreme version of this is CoD Hardcore, where players have no health. Its first to shoot and first to kill. So not so skilled players would sit in a corner and wait for an enemy to walk by. Boom, the lesser skilled opponent wins.
That’s the direction that the lower TTK in Apex was going. They even admitted that they want the player to shoot first to win. That’s not a good look for Apex.
