Demotion wouldn't fix anything. If a guy gets to a level, then they lose the next game and get demoted, they can do well in the next to get back. You'd just get people yoyoing between levels. Some would stop at the level to ensure they dont go backwards. Then you lose players playing ranked. And at the top level, whether they are diamond or masters, it doesn't matter because they'd still be in pred lobbies.
@hayhor Demotion actually would help since you get players carried in higher tiers (sometimes they even pay for it) when they simply are not on that level. Plat IV is full of those people, some of them would have to really start playing better in order to get back to it. Of course it'd not fix the issue permanently but at least it'd help with it partially.
I wouldn't apply it to Master though since queue times would dramatically rise.

@Cro_Pittt Once you get to Plat, I believe, you can't team up with someone more than one rank below you. Therefore, if you get carried as you say, you're really only within 1 category, and it means you had to team up with someone who could handle their weight and yours.
I don't really see that as a problem. First, it's just a badge, it only means something to an individual to have a certain rank, and second, it's a lot of work to get there, relying on someone else. Sort of good luck with that is what I'd tell these people, and it's not super amazing to tag a rank. Rank decline would NOT prevent that, as it'd just be a matter of not playing that rank again for the carried player.
You're battling with Respawn who wants more players playing their game no matter what. It's not going to help them to have players drop ranked is what they are saying clearly, so you'd seriously have to come at the argument and explain how the ranked player base would grow if you had rank loss. And I think what the dev is saying here is, also, good luck with that.
I wouldn't care myself, again. But I could tell you it's easy to imagine stopping playing after a player achieved rank, rather than trying to go further. It'd be just too frustrating.

@KelRieveryou can carry only to a certain extend, i dont think you can carry a real silver to master, but to plat should not be a huge problem.
Rats are more of an issue, i guess you can rat yourself to at least diamond without doing any dmg/kills.
I guess its even possible to reach Plat by only idling (not playing at all, just queuing) in games until your mates die and you get those round points.- 4 years ago
@r1ggedgame You cannot get to Diamond without any kills
You can't get to Platinum either.
Just for the record, and this is not on you, but people do things like system reward math in their heads and it has no bearing on reality. You're not going to get through Gold without kills in the real world, in the time frame of a season. It's actually impossible, I'd argue. And I don't know, if maybe one person wants to waste the time posting a legit YouTube video on how they did it, I will congratulate them on the complete waste of time...and complete uselessness as no one would want to replicate it...if they even could.
The bottom line is you might not need 5 kills a match, but you need to regularly kill people to raise your rank up inside a time frame that matters, BUT most importantly, you have to not play like a hot dropping *. That's different than not getting kills (I always like how there's no middle ground ever...you're either hot dropping or hiding, according to these forums :P)
Anyway, I don't really think you were saying that, but I want to just take the opportunity to regularly stab the myth of climbing rank by hiding. You're going to get out of Silver at best doing that, you won't be making it to Plat or Diamond.
I agree, getting carried can happen through gold. But that's a big act of generosity or a good friend there, and of course requires you to do what really Respawn wants, which is log with a full team. This is not a pug friendly game, so while you can call it getting carried, it also is technically team work. And the worse you are compared to your carrying pal, the longer it's going to take both of you. I'm okay with this level of suffering for people to do that. You don't need to remove rank protection, to be carried in this way is already awful enough for the people involved.
Respawn wants more people to play ranked, not less. And I do believe both more people play with ranked protection, and less would without. That's pretty much their argument, seems like, and a solid last nail in the coffin of the argument until someone wants to really try pitching how more people play ranked with no rank protection :P

Players who get carried now become fodder for better players. Many will say yeah but they are my teammates and ruin my game but I can guarantee you probably kill more of them than you have for teammates. Things tend to even out.
