Do you think SMBB is necessary in fps pvp games? I do no think it is. PVP is competitive, there is only sweat, no casual mode. You want to win, get better. SBMM means the guy who spent 500 ho...

SBMM exists because without it the only players who would be left in the game are your "500 hour target practice" no lifes. If you can't make room in your game for the casual player who can put in maybe 3 or 4 hours a week and doesn't want to spend them being made to feel like a complete idiot, then yes, you need sbmm. It's a game, my friend. Not a job.

@reconzero Yes, but it's a PVP game that is losing it's whole identity because they want to include players that don't normally play PVP games? Where is the sense in that? Back when games did just fine without it.

  I've been player first person shooters since 2001 and I've never played one that didn't use sbmm. When exactly was it that games did just fine without? I have a very clear recollection of Apex devs saying that everytime they try even toning down sbmm the population takes a nose dive, as does average number of matches played per session, and I assume also revenue. Numbers don't lie.

  There is a difference between providing set stats for players (which sbmm does NOT do) and providing fair opportunities for players to attain reasonable stats on their own. Even with very rigid and very effective sbmm, which we do not have in this game, there are ways to rise above your cohort. Getting better is just one of them.
  
  I can agree that sbmm rushes the race to rank lock and can make the game feel stale over time. But I would say that it takes far more time for that to happen than it does for an average player, being slaughtered by masters/preds, to just quit the game altogether. And this game... any game, really... cannot do without average players.
  
  And on the subject of master/pred players being forced to play only their peers, and then leaving because they feel the grind and the burnout? Hold on a minute while I grab a box of Kleenex here so I can wipe away the tears.
