Re: Is it me or are snipers just bad?

Another player who doesn't understand the difference between "I suck at this" and "This sucks" :D

thats why no one uses snipers in game? Lol. Face it theyre badly balanced weapons. They should be easier to hit shots with. Theres no reason to have both a drop off and travel time. 1 would suffice. Other games with snipers have 1 or even none of those things. Its just a way to make the guns inconsistent. Instead of allowing people who can aim to get value out of them the devs add artificial difficulties which makes them

    suck.

Every game is filled with the same 5-8 weapons because the other 15+ are useless. No one uses mozambique or re45 or p2020 or sentinel or ..... it goes on. If 2 players 1v1, 1 has a r99, the other a p2020 who’s gonna win? And thats why weapon balance is garbage

@RockScorpion384 I disagree (as you might have guessed). You need to become skilled with a sniper to compensate for the drop off time and travel time. Also, you need to know about each sniper - Kraber and Charge Rifle have low drop off, Longbow & Sentinel medium and TT high. The best sniper users are those - who just like real life - who can factor in time, drop off and wind (not a thing in Apex lol) to become good at using them. The game is about rewarding skill.

Snipers can be used as shotguns too. I've had a couple of squad wipes on drop with a Longbow. Just yesterday I knocked a BH at melee distance with a TT.

(BTW the clip was not meant to impress - it was meant to amuse. Poor bloke spends all that time in his shield, sorts out his inventory, wanders off with plans in his head ... and gets killed ...)
  • @EdwardDLuffy I would love if people could actually use snipers in this game without putting your own squad at a disadvantage. Thats what snipers do. They’re too inconsistent to be useful.

Whats the point when you can just run in with a r301 and kill everyone point blank. Whats a sniper gonna do about that? Nothing.

And you may say, whats a r301 gonna do against a sniper at long range. Nothing, but neither is the sniper because all the r301 player has to do is not stand still and it makes the sniper 10x harder to hit. It takes 3 hits to get killed by a sniper, plenty of time to hide behind cover, heal up. All while a sniper cant do anything. They’re irrelevant weapons and need reworking to be more consistent. I am SICK of the same weapons being dominant. The devs can rotate weapons in and out of drops as much as they want. Doesnt change the fact that the same weapons are always dominant.

@RockScorpion384 They're situational. I only ever really snipe at third party fights. They're good for people who are 'hiding' from another fight to heal. They are also good for hitting people who are hiding in buildings but too close to a window.

I certainly don't find it 10x harder to hit a moving target with a sniper. I've lost count of the number of enemies I've sniped while they are running at full speed.

If it's a 3v3 fight I am in there with an assault rifle. There's no way I'm going to leave my team 2v3 so I can snipe.

BTW as a Fuse main if I hit you with a sniper and you go hide to heal expect the delivery of the knucklecluster, a 'nade or the motherload pronto :D

@RockScorpion384 Factoring drop off and travel time require more skill. We don't want noob friendly Operator from Valorant that has no travel time. Besides, you are forgetting Apex is a fast paced close-combat game, snipers are exactly where they are supposed to be. If you want one shot snipers, try PUBG.

@BaldWraithSimp You are right , snipers are good but only when it's working the way it's supposed to be.
Sentinel have a very strange bullet drop which feels inconsistent, each shot acts differently
The rest is just useless as a high damage long range weapon for the same reason that you mentioned which is this game is fast paced game so when you land a shot at someone 300 or 400 meters away most probably you will not get this chance again and the target will run away with a broken shield at most

@maximas1986 The sentinel and TT have the exact same bullet speed.. The Longbow is slightly slower with the bullet speed.

Switching between the Sentinel, TT and Lonbow can be tricky because the different bullet drops and the different speeds. Longbow you have to lead your shots a bit more. Sentinel you really have to compensate for bullet drop and so on. It's all mute in shorter distance but longer ranges it becomes really tricky. You also have to sort of guess where the enemy is going to lead shots accurately. When I switch between the 3 I typically miss a full magazine or two as I adjust for the differences. Do it all on mid range optics as well, so I don't have the range finder helping me.

If you want to get good at sniping run mid range and just learn how to compensate for range without the range finder. When I was first starting out with it, I would carry a 6x slap the 6x on to find targets/range, switch to the 2x-4x and start shooting.

@DarthValtrex I completely agree. We do not want a bunch of one shot snipers in this game.

And it is a good thing snipers behave differently. If they didnt what would be the point in having multiple?

@hayhor I agree. I like the snipers as they are and I carry them fairly frequently. I tend to look at the map and ring to see if they are even going to be an option. Some of the rings make it very difficult to use a sniper so there is no point in carrying one. I could probably get a 4k and 20 bomb if they made the Sentinel a 1 shot kill gun. But it's not really something I want to see in the game or deal with. Plus when I want a 1 shot kill gun, I just go after care packages and hope to find a Kraber, few rounds with that and I've had my fun.

If Salvage is going to be in ring and I can hold that tower then I'm going to do it. Similarly with either of the diving boards. KC seems like the better map to run snipers IMO. It has a ton of areas that provide good high ground for sniping. Places where you don't have to worry about someone walking up from behind and killing you.
