Re: What does Apex need my webcam for?

Thank you. Also, can I check if you use a connected controller, Xbox or otherwise? It looks like the device has some sort of integration with controllers.

Another thing I wonder, is if the game is trying to use it as a microphone. If you open the Sound settings in Windows does it show as an input device? If so, can you try setting a different input device and see if anything changes?

  • @EA_David Nope, nothing. Just a good old keyboard and mouse.

Yes, it does but this (webcam) is not my default MIC input. I am using a MIC integrated with my headset and this is set as default.

Thank you. Just to double check, do you use your mentioned headset mic in matches? I know some folks prefer to stay mute.

I wonder if you try disabling forced mic recording, does it have any impact? To start, close the game, then you can go to C:\Users\yourusername\Saved Games\Respawn\Apex\local and open the settings.cfg in notepad.

Scroll to the bottom and near the bottom you should see voice_forcemicrecord "1". Can you set this to voice_forcemicrecord "0", save the change, and start the game.

Sure, i prefer that as well but when I do use it, I am using my headset. It is set as default MIC.

Nope, that's not it. I've changed this value to "0" (was "1") but it has no effect.

OK, thank you. You can set that back to "1", just in case it leads to other audio issues.

I'm fairly certain it's the mic that's being accessed as it's not a super-rare occurence, and I haven't been able to replicate anything with the non-mic'd cameras I have here. Do you have the ability to isolate/disable the mic part of the camera, either via a physical switch or -if you're comfortable with it- via Device Manager?

Oh and I've been focusing on the mic part, but can we just make sure the camera isn't being used by Apex?

If you hit the Windows Key and type "security settings" you can find Camera to the left. Click this and check the list of apps which are allowed to use the camera. Apex shouldn't be there, but please let us know if it is.

  • @EA_David Yup, this last solution fixed the issue.
I've disabled my webcam MIC completely, not that I ever needed it ;-)
    Thanks!
