At any rate, I read the story and I have to be honest: my initial reaction was fairly snarky. But having had a little time to chew on it I'm coming around to thinking (hoping) that maybe this is the shot in the arm this game (should have got a year and a half ago) so desparately needs. I'm sure it's far too early to say, but feel free to speculate along with me. What does this mean for the game going forward? What meaningful changes would you like to see? What new content would you like see added?
@reconzeroI feel the same. If they just set up a third studio led by a 20 year industry veteran to crank out collection events and skins, or just billable content of any sort for the store, that's the end of Apex. If they are going to actually tackle the fundamental issues with this game that the community has asked to be fixed for years, then we're getting somewhere. We'll see, I guess.
@NickBeam27 I think they've said that the audio issues are an engine limitation. I would love to have them work with Valve on a sound engine redesign to get past those though. For a BR, you need to be able to accurately represent a ton of sounds at once dynamically and get them to mix properly. Especially Apex with it's huge roster of legends, abilities, & actions.
- @HappyHourSumwur Yeah, I hear ya. I saw the Dev's words on the sound issues. Basically said, that to fix the sound the entire game would have to be rebuilt, as its all embedded in the files. They can only make adjustments within their sound engines parameters. Which only gives them a small window of options.
With that being said, I don't understand why they continue to add so many sounds not needed which bogs down the already stretched thin sound engine, when they know it can't handle anymore.
I mean look at WE, in the old Sorting Factory... the two towers there that have steam spewing values on the two roof tops flooding that entire area with the steam sounds is completely pointless. There are a ridiculous amount - so many sounds they could remove from this game which would take some much needed stress off the sound engine and may help us hear more important sounds needed to hear to play a competitive BR.
So they have a 20 plan for Apex to thrive but know this is as good as their sound will ever be. Pathetic! I would be fine with Apex being taken down for a period of time to fix the sound issues. If they wanna make it better, do it right - regardless what that would be. But they would have to take a little hit on income generated for that to happen so yeah,
