Solos and duos is worth it
I believe solos and duos can work, and a limited time game mode being made available may be a good step. Solos will make lifeline less useful... but gibralatar can still use his powers in a "solo" fashion along with caustic, pathfinder, bangalore, bloodhound, wraith, and octane. Just because one character is rendered slightly usless in this game mode doesn't mean it's not worth a shot, and this could open up different playstyles. I understand pinging, respawn beacons, and even gold shield won't be useful and they don't have to keep those in this gamemode, but personally i think the gold shield could have some use because if you fight someone and other solos jump in you may hide and rez while they fight, and yes I understand this is rare but the gold shield from my understanding gets thirsted a lot before its used so it is already inherently rare to be used. People have addressed that this {pinging, respawn beacons...} is what makes the game different but the powers/abilities and pace are what really entice me in this game, plus this won't destroy their game if they test this out because so many people I've played with (randoms and friends) have complained to me about how they wish there was a solo/duo mode. The gaming community may not know what is best for the game but if they just would try listening to this idea more people could stay in this game and more people could join. A lot of what I have said doesn't really address duos either, but most of what I mentioned doesn't go too much against it so if solos is never put in the game I can understand to an extent but if duos is never put in the game I believe people will continually slip away from this game. (Also with dealing with servers/lag spikes- if they are able to find a way to deal with it or fix something like that in a reasonable time people will more than likely stay but all of this is assuming it will happen. Along with this the player base for 3s Squads may shrink when adding this game mode but i believe it will pull in those who left and bring in new people meaning its worth whatever fear is present)
There's no point for duos, as it would be almost the same game as now. I can give you reasons against solos:
- The playerbase will be split, this will lead to longer waiting times and potentially fewer available servers after a while ( to keep the queues filled at all times), which means higher ping for many players. it's not like in Overwatch, where only 8-12 players are needed for a match
- Solo mode needs a serious rebalancing, otherwise Pathfinder is the only legend to pick, as it can reach places no other legends can (walls of repulsor area, for example), then snipe the hell out of everyone else. This legend can also move way faster than most, it can escape easier, stay longer outside the circle for looting.
- If abilities would be removed in solo play, any new legend added would be as appealing as a new skin.
- Pinging, reviving, respawning, shields, ultimate accelerants would be useless in solo mode. By the way, self revive shield in solo mode makes absolutely no sense, it will be obvious that a player has it because he's downed and not dead.
- The game experience will lose its appeal: no more flanking, pinching, choking or other team strategies,but more camping and 4th-5th-6th partying and kill stealing will occur instead.
- Solo mode would reduce the need to get more online friends to play with.
Apex is a team based game, it's build from the ground up to praise team values, such as cooperation and friendship, not just competitiveness. If its survival would depend on a solo mode it would be a big problem, like a failure of the product as it was originally intended.
I understand that many people request this solo mode, but I think very few actually understand what that entails. Besides, I'm pretty sure the devs tried a solo mode when developing Apex and probably decided then that is not viable. It is good to listen to the community, of course, but only up to a point, because it's mostly made from people that don't have the experience and creativity of the industry devs and often decide on a whim.
