First I will start with agreeing that good sound in shooter games make or break them. I come from Quake where you could hear slightest noise and prefire enemies not to mention footsteps when they walk, run or jump.
Second - given history of Apex...as long as the sound is not as bad as upon release of E-district (that in my case made me quit new map first time ever just because multi level map with dark setting + crazy confusing sound, made it so bad that I might as well turn off audio all together). So EA under-delivering...kinda their trademark.
Third - trident rework...probably was done by a person with one ear, two eyes and 100% tolerance towards feedback...
Yeeeey they made Tridents finally controllable. OHHHH they broke basically everything else about them. Glitch abusing players just having field day when it is Olympus because as said above Trident sounds are more silent than my farts and you can even ram people now doing damage... easy money especially for wallhacking teams.
YET there is no right way for Apex community because:
IF you make sound proper and people with good skills, great audio setup, knowledge of EQ usage in game will just get major upper hand -> that will force even more people to cry about the fact that they can't play with automated voice lines of Legends on because they like to hear "Mozambique here" for the 1000000000 time in their life while not being able to utilize of the potential great audio -> part of them will revert to wallhacking because "that's fair play" to balance out vs sweaty players.
IF you make sound as now or worse -> basically there are just two options of hearing something and hearing close to nothing. Legit players will complain about sound, others will just balance it out with radars and wallhacks.
To be fair I would not mind better sound yet current version is far from unplayable. What makes it impossible to judge are still the community which consists mainly from casuals that never will be good because they don't play seriously and hackers that will always be good because EA is not able to get ride of them.
I as a player that is all about fine-tuning max out of Apex and doing my best to improve can never tell given current situation of the game if I did make some noise I did not hear but others did or people just radared / wallhacked s$#%^ out of me (probably latter as I play only ranked and in Plat+ lobbies 95% of a time).
p.s. another thing people always forget when complaining about sound = in many cases they don't follow enemy rotations, have very bad game awareness, just go straight to sounds they hear and mostly looking forward (for controller players in many cases even into floor), they get into fights that take 1+min never looking around just forward where shooting happens, in most cases of soloq separate and can't even do all of the above trash as 3stack instead do some version of 2 vs everyone and 1 vs everyone and then they complain about sound... Quite sure your trident story also has at least some of these facts in common :) as if you just face 3 v 3 a team that arrived by trident it shouldn't be all lost.
