SOUND WHO ?

Respawn, we need to talk. I understand that you changed your developer team, like 10 times so far.
Can we please try 11? You made a statement that these new sound changes will be something revolutionary for Apex, BUT  instead, I can't hear a SINGLE footstep sound in the game, a week ago team managed to run me over with a Trident. I looked behind me around 10 seconds before they hit me, and there was no one behind me. Suddenly, I'm being pushed, and by the time I turned around team jumped of from Tridend, like I owe them money.  Last few days I was getting killed close range 90% of games, like 2m away from me, by the full squad, and I did not hear a single itty bitty smudge of a sound that someone was coming.

I understand you can't do anything about your fellow cheaters, but at least spend some $ for a proper sound engineer. I know Source Engine can't handle that many sound inputs, and I don't know if whoever is responsible for using that engine didn't actually believe that Apex would become a popular game, so they did not bother to think ahead and plan for the future. Just call it a quit and make Apex 2 on Frostbite engine (it's not like BF6 has good sound as well, but it handles sound inputs better). STOP WASTING OUR TIME ON A GAME YOU CAN'T IMPROVE ON A TECHNICAL LEVEL.

From my limited <400 game experience this season regarding tridents:

    1. I had no issues really with the old version, never used them much (mostly on Storm point really), yet I have no major issue with current version yet not fully explored e.g. I have no idea what shield are you talking about.
    2. sound issue that mainly bothered me = it almost felt like advantage to take trident vs previously exact opposite (tell whole lobby where you are when using one) given enemies can't really hear well it approaching and that was more ridiculous: driving it seemingly produced less sound vs when you jumped it.
    3. I did have a few chances to shoot at teams driving trident - in my experience even when focusing it with my teammate or whole team we still failed to kill them vs previously we easily knock someone down or force people to abandon it instantly...how you get 1clipped I can only wonder because if I understood correctly now trident takes more damage and explodes? / stops working vs you actually dying first and trident remaining intact

Overall though I did not feel that audio would have become worse. I heard that they promised some sort of in game EQ so you could finetune your sound profile but clearly at least in my game it was not present, matter of future seasons I guess... So I am glad it is not as bad as when e-district was released and I stopped playing because I just could not understand what I am hearing and from where (up / down, my team or enemies shooting, etc.), from those times still G7 and few other guns for me create echo when I shoot the gun so for me it sounds like someone else is shooting at me ... annoying af but I already got used to it :D and skipped playing G7 as much as I could despite it being really valuable these past 2 seasons.

I think ppl know the sound is broken completely bc the same thing happened to me trident pushed no sound and insta knocked. Not to mention when I use trident even when they added the shield thing I got on trident and insta 1 clipped even tho im in the trident with the new shield😭 so idk if it’s cheating or what but so many cheaters where even good players look like they’re cheating but others make it so obvious even if they heard my footsteps it’s blatant somebody’s cheating. Idk wtf they did to the game but it’s unplayable and you would think maybe they’d try to fix these issues but no **bleep** the fan base who has been playing since day 1

Same. Trident pushed no sound, nothing. Insta died. I would say the cheating is a bigger problem bc years ago you wouldn’t have 30% of lobby cheating in some games but atm the audio is just as **bleep** as it was years ago. I can have a full team on my shi and still not hear a single footstep😭 like wtf are the devs doing? Then you get into games where ppl are clearly cheating and no sound. Why am I still playing this game? Like honestly. I quit come back and it’s the same **bleep** but worse now. I thought maybe they’d have things fixed by now but nope it just got worse😭 what a joke.  I suggest everyone delete the game go find something worth your time.

Ignoring hardware flex :) I can only say what I said before - probably you were split / alone and team with wallhack just went after you with trident (haven't actually checked how fast it moves now but in 10 just by running you can cover 100m, if you have path or ash or octane even more...trident I would assume easily covers more than scan radius in 10 second which might have been 15 or 20 :P ).

So nothing to odd here just bad timing + typical experience provided by hackers while soloqing.

E.g. More annoying is part where you are fighting team that you know pretty much precise location but then suddenly horizon goes out of sight, uses gravity lift, falls behind you and you get 99 PK shot in the back which you see or hear only in your death feed :)

  • Well, I forgot to mention that I used Survey Beacon to check if anyone was around me before I pushed to res my teammates (there was no one even close to me).
Also, I want to add that I have over 7,000 hours in-game, and this isn't my first FPS game.
I have excellent game awareness, which is my strongest trait, because my movement is meh and my aim is just slightly above average.
Additionally, I forgot to mention that I have a SPL Crimson 3 sound card, and I use Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X headphones, which have a very well-balanced sound profile. I don't have a sound issue in other FPS games.

  • First I will start with agreeing that good sound in shooter games make or break them. I come from Quake where you could hear slightest noise and prefire enemies not to mention footsteps when they walk, run or jump.

Second - given history of Apex...as long as the sound is not as bad as upon release of E-district (that in my case made me quit new map first time ever just because multi level map with dark setting + crazy confusing sound, made it so bad that I might as well turn off audio all together). So EA under-delivering...kinda their trademark.

Third - trident rework...probably was done by a person with one ear, two eyes and 100% tolerance towards feedback...
Yeeeey they made Tridents finally controllable. OHHHH they broke basically everything else about them. Glitch abusing players just having field day when it is Olympus because as said above Trident sounds are more silent than my farts and you can even ram people now doing damage... easy money especially for wallhacking teams.

YET there is no right way for Apex community because:

IF you make sound proper and people with good skills, great audio setup, knowledge of EQ usage in game will just get major upper hand -> that will force even more people to cry about the fact that they can't play with automated voice lines of Legends on because they like to hear "Mozambique here" for the 1000000000 time in their life while not being able to utilize of the potential great audio -> part of them will revert to wallhacking because "that's fair play" to balance out vs sweaty players.

IF you make sound as now or worse -> basically there are just two options of hearing something and hearing close to nothing. Legit players will complain about sound, others will just balance it out with radars and wallhacks.

To be fair I would not mind better sound yet current version is far from unplayable. What makes it impossible to judge are still the community which consists mainly from casuals that never will be good because they don't play seriously and hackers that will always be good because EA is not able to get ride of them.

I as a player that is all about fine-tuning max out of Apex and doing my best to improve can never tell given current situation of the game if I did make some noise I did not hear but others did or people just radared / wallhacked s$#%^ out of me (probably latter as I play only ranked and in Plat+ lobbies 95% of a time).

p.s. another thing people always forget when complaining about sound = in many cases they don't follow enemy rotations, have very bad game awareness, just go straight to sounds they hear and mostly looking forward (for controller players in many cases even into floor), they get into fights that take 1+min never looking around just forward where shooting happens, in most cases of soloq separate and can't even do all of the above trash as 3stack instead do some version of 2 vs everyone and 1 vs everyone and then they complain about sound... Quite sure your trident story also has at least some of these facts in common :) as if you just face 3 v 3 a team that arrived by trident it shouldn't be all lost.

  • My dream is for the development team to be changed for the 11th time.

No one has ever ruined a game like this, and it's never been as unbalanced as it has been over the past few seasons.

The sound, of course, is terrible.
