The "Art of Dibbing"

Dibs are something that you can do in this game, mainly to inform people that you want that item. Mostly its done because you NEED it, not that you necessarily want it just to get the edge over the other members or the other teams. For example, you're running the R-301 and you NEED that light mag so you dib it. I've seen many people, and I, myself, have also took something when someone else had dibbed it. It's not an entirely important topic to talk about, but sometimes you need the item that the person had pinged more than the others do sometimes. So, try to understand the other people before you pick something up that they had dibbed. It's pretty hard to see what the person had dibbed, and I understand that. So, I have a solution to combat this.

At the top right of the screen where the kill feed is and all, have it so that when someone dibs something, it shows up at the feed as something like " Player has dibbed Extended Light Mag Level 2 ". Another thing that can be done would be when approaching an item someone has dibbed, it is seen in the details of the thing that the player had dibbed the item. However, if you take it, nothing bad would happen. I don't feel that people should be punished just because they took a dibbed item. It's more of a preventation measure.

  • Some players are really good at communicating with the in-game menu. I haven't got the hang of it yet and usually end up spotting an enemy instead of doing "dibs".

  • If I need something and some1 else "claimed" it, I will most definitely take it if I'm closer. Calling dibs does not make the item yours.

I call dibs just to mark the items so that the marker doesn't disappear and I gather them up at my own pace if they're still there. I may even call dibs on things I don't need atm, but that could come in handy if I switch weapons. E.g., I may mark turbocharger and get it if I find a havoc and enough ammo or eventually cancel it (or the other way around).

What is annoying to me though is ppl who call dibs and never cancel that if they don't get it. Useless markers are annoying, especially if it's an item 2km away marked at start of the game.

  • and suddenly, there will be dib trolls. Imagine someone - who doesnt need the item- calls a dib on a thing u do. I even do the door blocking trolls on my friends now

  • I understand what you're trying to say about the marker not going away. It's annoying and really distracts you sometimes. I guess dibbing is just, in a way, telling people that you would want that item. You make a point about the fact that dibbing doesn't necessarily make the item yours, but it would usually mean to me, that the person wants it.
