It's all good. Just more evidence that they use EOMM or equivalent model for matchmaking. That's the only rational explanation for why I still got those lobbies. If I'm wrong then the devs just suck at their jobs. Not sure which is a better excuse.
MM got so bad that I've quit for the season. Will check out S21 but as soon as I see that MM and anti-cheat are still trash I'll be out again. After having played a ton since S8 I think I'm that guy now...the one who hops on for the first day or two of each new season but doesn't play any more than that.
- 1 year ago@HappyHourSumwur I understand you so much, I feel your pain as if it were my own. I've been playing since release, but I don't have good enough reflexes to quickly target the enemy and control recoil well. Previously, I could reach the gold rank in a ranked match, I always took this place for many seasons, in some seasons when the matchmaking became truly terrible, adding players to my squad who played much worse than me, but all opponent's players were as if they had just come from the final round of the tournament. Some seasons were silver, some were even bronze, when I lost hope. And despite this whole journey... the game continues to send me into matches where Predators, Masters and Diamonds are running among the enemies. Considering my depressing skill, every time I ask myself the question: “What have I done to deserve this suffering? Why does the game consider me worthy of playing against such terrible opponents who don’t even give me the slightest chance to develop, they just destroy me in a microsecond in every match.” I used to spend my time playing the game to get rid of depression, but now I feel like this game is dragging me further into the abyss of depression. I increasingly feel that in this game I was assigned the role of “Mob” so that various PRO players, streamers and cheaters could have fun at my expense. In the last two years, I don't remember ever being actually put into a fair, balanced match where my opponents and my allies were equal in skill to me.
And the terrible thing is that I still haven't found another game with similar gameplay as an alternative. And EA, along with Respawn, are well aware that there are no other alternatives for players to go to. Other BR games have a significantly different pace of play and the dynamics of the battles themselves are different, which is why Apex Legends is so loved by many who do not like the gameplay of PUBG/WZ/Fortnite. And realizing this, they are in no hurry to correct the bad situation with matchmaking and cheaters. This makes it even sadder... we have become hostages to the incompetence of other persons. - Lobasrumpasaurus1 year agoNew Veteran

Just in case, the problem might not be about matchmaking as much it might be about cheating. That case about hackers messing with Apex Legends' tournament might have given a slight taste of it. But as long as I'm not able to tell how many people is cheating in this game, I'll just add that I have met one sure case of cheating in game and a lot more suspicious ones.
PS. For hitting people with your gun, you might wan't to try shooting in burst rather than full auto. That helped me a lot. Very few guns in the game can be shot full auto without problems. (At least without upgrades). Second one is that in very close encounter situations don't use sights. (Some weapons excluded). You need that larger view of not using sight in close up encounters. And if the opponent is too close, just hit them with melee to get some more space. In some cases that might even kill them.

Had nice evenly balanced games yesterday. Now its payback time. Lube not included.
Maybe I am just too old but I dont really understand the mentality with the current matchmaking.
I get the dopamine rewarding trick but I mean how juvenile / low self esteem do you have to be to actually see this kind of lopsided match as a great win for the other team?
"GET WRECKED!" BOOYAH!"
By creating this kind of matches you are superboosting the ingame toxicity & giving players mixed signals about their own MMR.
This in return results massive egoboosts and posts on social media & forums how everyone that kills me is a cheater.
"I just dropped 10 kills in TDM. I am the best there ever will be in Apex. This next guy simply cant be better as I have the results from my last match to show. So he was definitely cheating and also my braindead teammates who didnt help me" - 1 year ago
Few hours back, I got decent matches in game. Meaning that at least some of them my team won. Now that I tried to play this game again, it seems like the fairness in matchmaking has again gone down the toilet. It seems like in other multiplayer games, this problem goes up during certain hours. Not sure if it's due to increased amount of player from certain countries or just that certain players are playing during those hours. I'm not sure if there are more cheaters around at that time, but it certainly seems like it. The worse case scenario is the one that I have been suspicious of, and that's where the dev's group you up against cheaters.
The reason why I'm suspicious of this is because it happened to me in another game. At least then the dev's actually admitted it, (through in-game message), so it wasn't that bad a thing. But if it's happening in this game and without getting any kind of notice that it's happening, it just makes players frustrated. And in my case, playing the game less or even outright stopping for long periods of time. (And this includes not paying or wanting to pay for anything associated with the game). Which basically leaves only the cheaters, casuals and/or people who can tolerate this kind of things during long periods of time. And in the long run, this just makes the problem even worse. Not better.
So I really hope that's not the case, because the gameplay itself is in Apex is good. Both technically and otherwise. And that would be a waste of a good game.

The devs admitted it? What do you mean? I've had suspicions that lobbies separate likely cheaters from non-cheaters, unless there aren't enough players to do so which leads to my being tossed to the cronus wolves. Interesting to see someone else has this theory. My games are quite fun when I get a lobby of fair players. Often times the top squads may have the odd aimbot, but I do enjoy the skill-based competition up until then. Nice to meet you, by the way! Happy to hear there are still people like me playing and holding out for positive change.
- HappyHourSumwur1 year agoSeasoned AceThe original blog post came out in January of 2023. That is 16 months ago and MM is actually worse now. Let that sink in.

What’s your current take on matchmaking (pubs)?
I know you said its “worse” now— what does that mean for you?
What would “good” matchmaking look like for you right now, versus what you’re experiencing?

@Axs5626Sxa5001"Good" used to be about getting 1 to 3 kills every 2nd or 3rd game with a 4 or 5 kill game every 10th or so and a win every 20th game or so. When I quit playing BR modes about 2 months ago, the better games (3+ kills) stopped happening and I would go hours getting no kills and minimal damage, dying almost immediately in the first fight I got into. Every enemy seemed like part of a 3 stack of murder bots that never missed and anticipated my every move while my teammates were literally brain dead.

Like I said. It was a different game than Apex, but the result was the same. I've seen similar things happening here, but some of them might just be ones that got flagged of possible cheating. Like the ones where you end up with your team with no enemy in sight. That has happened a few times now. Like in those mixtape matches. Like when your playing a team deathmatch and at some point you find out that there's no enemy to be seen anywhere. You just run around the area trying to find any member of the opposing team. Or like in one case, run around the arena to find few of them standing still.
All in all, Apex devs haven't admitted anything like this, but it seems like it's happening more times than is enough to enjoy this game. Which makes it hard for me to know if I really suck at this game or if there's just so many cheaters in this game.
PS. As you can see, my reply is a _little_ late, because I'm taking a break at this game. The game just frustrates me more than I'm enjoying it.

I'm 6 games into the new Season 21 and I can already tell matchmaking is back to ridiculous mode. I'm having 10 minute queues and when I finally get into a game, it's nothing but ranked pred stacks vs my 2 man with a random who leaves immediately. The Communists are attempting equality of outcome again.

When 23 kills is not enough to win TDM anymore.
🤕😐 Apparently I have to try harder.
- HappyHourSumwur1 year agoSeasoned Ace@Twizted3k_tv Yep, I decided to check in on S21 last night and quickly realized that MM is the same as S20 if not worse. Pubs is completely unplayable for solo queuers.
I know I'm not great, but it feels completely unfair at this point. I played 15 Trios matches solo queue with randoms and didn't get more than 2 kills and my KDR was about half what it was before S20. I quit 2 weeks into last season and now I'm quitting S21 after one session.
