This Game Feels Unplayable

So, I went away from Apex for a few days. I was on a mini vacation and got to take a break from it for a little bit. But, holy crap, I come back to the game and I keep asking myself what happened to it. It feels unplayable.

Seriously, I don't know if the Chimp who operates the matchmaker split soda all over the control panel or what, but matchmaking feels non existent. I either get players on my team who have never played the game before, up against people multiple ranks higher than me or vice versa.

I'll give you an example. I was playing Arenas. The enemy team was really good, and so was our Wraith. But, whatever skill level they were, was way out of my and my other squad mate's league. I kid you not that I couldn't do anything. I peek out from cover for just a moment and I would lose all my shields and half my health. My squad mate was suffering a similar fate.

The wraith though? Playing like they live and breathe Apex. They ended the match with over a dozen kills, pretty much 1v3 the enemy team about every other round. The game even went into sudden death, and I think "we" won. But, it wasn't fun. Not for me and my teammate. It felt more like we were watching a movie than playing the game. It felt like the matchmaker just threw us into this high skill game, because it needed warm bodies to fill seats. And, of course, none of us could leave without getting a penalty. So, I just sat and watched the Wraith play for 12 mins or so. Absolutely ridiculous.

On the other hand, I got almost a reverse match a few games later. I was the one on (close to) equal footing with the enemy squad, but my teammates were playing like it was their first arena match ever. Sadly, I, unlike the Wraith, can't 1v3 almost every round, so we lost pretty quick.

Point is though, all this is ridiculous. Doesn't matter what server I try, what time of day, nothing. I feel like either the matchmaker "blesses" me with bronze newbie opponents and my team gets to kill them for free, or Im "cursed" to go up against high skill players that treat this game like a full time job and I get wrecked. Neither of which is fun.

Even the BR is messed up. I now usually only have one of two experiences there. Either I have a "drop and die" game or I go to a "quiet spot" and I'm Top 10, Top 5, Top 3 in like 5 minutes, because everyone is dead before the first ring even starts to close. At the point, it's just a matter if my team can beat the few remaining squads or not. But, it isn't fun. I've literally had microwave meals take longer than a game of Apex. Even the ones that aren't "drop and die".

I just... This sucks. I feel like there's no system to the matchmaking. I think I would have better odds winning the jackpot at a Vegas casino, than I would having an even decent "fair and balenced" match of Apex. You would think with things like cross play, matchmaking would be better. I mean, surely there's enough players playing this bloody game to give me/us matches that don't feel like (one sided) slaughters. Right?

All I can say is I'm happy my BP is almost done. From there, it's just worrying about prize trackers and Treasure Packs. Other than that, Ill be able to just ignore this bloody mess, until S10 starts. Should be fun...

  • @JonStriker126 You know water you have to do... stop microwaving meals you savage so you can savagely 1v3 on a proper meal! XD

But yea multiple ppl said the same regarding arenas. It’ll work out eventually *tries to contain laugh*
  • @JonStriker126I feel you. IDK what they did to the matchmaking this season but the lobbies ever since the start of the season are incredibly sweaty now. i'm either thrown into lobbies where almost half is atleast diamond+ premades with low skilled randoms or I get games where I get teammates that either hot drop and die instantly, rage quit when they get knocked or if I make the tiniest of mistakes, or if they see me play a legend they hate such as rampart

  • I love when someone can get off a good proper rant without coming across as a petulant child or a Karen.  Well done!

I don't think you'll get much argument from anyone that the matchmaker is doing a fine job.  Sorry it's getting you down, friend.

Yesterday’s MM probably was the worst. My friend and I were constantly being matched against people with 3 master badges on their banners while having level 30 smurf teammates. It was very frustrating. Arenas MM was better yesterday for us so we just played that to maximize the flash event before it was gone.

  • @JonStriker126 It feels unplayable because it literally is. I played maybe for an hour or 2 over the weekend out of pure boredom and I think I maybe got 3 or 4 kills in that time LOL. Aside from everything you mentioned the lag is just way too high. Almost every 1v1 ended up with me on the floor and I wasn't missing my shots. Also, I wonder about their "numbers". I'm pretty sure a lot of people stopped playing this thing which leaves the MM pool too small to balance properly and that's why you keep playing against the sweats that are left. I mean it's pretty obvious at this point, a lot of streamers, pro's, friends, regulars on the forums etc either stopped playing or are playing way less. From where I'm standing I see this game on the down slope.
  • @JonStriker126 Have you drank water today? Are you dehydrated?!

Nah, completely with you. Idk if the game is actually as bad as I feel it is or I'm just completely burnt out. I have matches where I can't kill people or just get completely destroyed and it's like why am I still playing this game? When it's giving me nothing but stress xD I'm sick of the 20 bomb, 4K dmg, 100K kills on one legend players being the only guys in my lobby. All of my stats are trash this season and my partners are worse than mine and yet we're put in these lobbys because we're playing together? Ridiculous.
  • It feels non existent because it is. Some days back I reported that I was matched against levels 2, 3 and 4 in Arena while I was level 87 and my teammateas were 292 and 392. This was on PC, keep in mind I am level 216 on Xbox now.

So... yeah, its safe to say that the Chimp who operates the matchmaker did split soda all over the place. Not just the control panel.

As someone who hasn't played since the game first came out, and started again last week, it definitely feels like there is a progression there but sometimes solo queing feels like teammates are RNG drops lmao. My friend was level 120 when I started, I was at 19 and I could not kill anyone in his Elo. Now (level 52) my Elo feels too easy but when I play with him it feels perfect and now we get wins.

So it's like it's half working really. Wonder if it has something to do with the auto-fill not working all the darn time. I was dropped alone in trios more times than I can count. It could be because I have better stats than my current Elo and couldn't find similarly skilled players? But why doesn't it just move me up? I don't get it.

  • @JonStriker126 I've been having serious issues with lag the past two seasons or so. It literally cost me a win yesterday. 2v2 in the final circle on WE. They had to come to us, and we had knocked their shields off well. I had the perfect flank to finish them off, when Apex lagged and froze my screen. The next thing I know, I'm knocked and we end up losing. It's not the first time this has happened to me.
