I do not understand the need get up close and trade damage face to face with the opposition. Of course there are times when it is required but it seems to be standard procedure... Maybe I'm thinking too hard, the competitive nature in me I guess.

I am neither terribly good at nor terribly interested in poke battles. I rarely take a gun with better range than a 301. When my team is sitting up somewhere taking potshots, for an extended time, I'm usually just crouched behind cover waiting for the opportunity to close the gap. I play frequently with a buddy who loves his snipers. I find it frustrating, mostly. Very rarely do his efforts lead to winning a team fight. He might get a knock that we're in no position to capitalize on, usually, unless I've been able to work out a flank to do so.
