Twitch Metrics
I don't personally believe Twitch metrics are the end all, be all of a game's popularity or worth. But from the game companies themselves, including Activision and EA, I know they look at those metr...
I think its the twitch metrics combined with other things (like the Cheeseman thread which points to the Steam metrics on lower game participation) that makes the case.
Not sure, though it could be, that reducing the RP penalty will correct things. I mean, it's for sure going to help. But I still have to believe the problems are at the core of this game, and that you don't have enough reward for solo players to work together. Even if you reduce the RP debt, you can have one bad player screw your whole team up on a regular basis, with a hot drop, or ignoring whatever the other two people are doing or whatever.
Somewhere else I had started to speculate on what could fix that problem, because even if you fixed ranked play, you aren't fixing the overall game. Of course, most answers I had were pretty heavy handed, like tethering your team to each other so you couldn't restore shields or health unless you were within some certain range of at least 1 other team mate. It won't help hot drops if 2 of your mates want to get themselves killed, but it would help when the 1 lone ranger goes and decides he's way more important than the other 2 of you. The reverse could be something that's not a penalty but a reward, like slow health and/or shield regen if you are within a certain range of another team mate. Like 50 m, so it's not onerous.
Those problems can be speculated on in another thread. The point of this one was more like I think the signs are showing that changes need to happen, and sooner would be better.
I fully agree with you.
EA/Respawn need to wake up on their new changes because they have to remember this is a game and what is their goal in making a game: Of course that is to make money but in order to do that, people must enjoy the game and have the feel that they can progress while having fun.
Currently Ranked is way to much of a grind, to much like ALGS play and not that fun because the balance of the new system is way off.
In silver4, 9th place and two KP = 30 RP -27 entry = 3RP gained.
In Gold4 9th place and two KP= 30 RP -39entry = -9RP loss. Hell 10th place with 5 KP is only going to give you a gain of 21 RP(G4) 18 (G3) 15 (G2) and 12 (G1), which sounds like a decent game but at that rate one would need over 133 games just to get to plat
in Plat4 9th place and two KP= 30RP -51entry = -21RP loss. one would have to consistently get at least 7-8th place and at least 3KP for a net gain of 5RP.
And before anyone says it one could gain RP in any of these ranks with enough KP, like 10 or so and placing 10th but who gets 10 KP per game on avg?
Ranked is now just Grind, Grind, Grind, double the time needed to rank up half what was before for no new or additional reward.
The Split will just add insult to injury.
Played some ranked last night and that was it, I am done with it for now. I will now join the ranks of those playing Trios, Duos, Arena's or awaiting the return of Control.
Numbers keep getting worse. It's still a short time thing but I don't think their mouse steps back have helped turn them around. Again, we shall see.
