First off, I have never played a BR game before. I have played Titanfall 2 for a long time. EVERY game, I land and I'm shot before I can even find a gun....what is the secret I'm missing to instantly be armed?

Pick your battles. Don't get into a ruck if you're not geared up.
Sounds are really helpful: listen to other player movement to figure out where they are, and where you shouldn't be.
Do you know how many people I run in too in game that do this.
It's funny to watch.
1. Land in an unnamed location... Most teams will call out named locations to land on. So dont do it.
2. Land in a really * place with only 2-3 buildings off to the side of the map.
3. Look around as you land to see where the enemies nearby are landing. And keep an eye on them. Land somewhere else.
4. Learn the map... Learn the areas you drop onto and best way to defend yourself or escape.

This is what you said. You're talking bout the masterful art of inventory management. Screw that! I'm talking bout mashing the pickup button like a madman until you find a gun in your hands XD. That's that noob level 'inventory management'. Cause usually you have like 4 ammo types, shield recovery and other random stuff before you have the dreaded mozambique or less dreaded p2020
