Just killed a Mirage that I downed during the final few teams. He slinked off somewhere and after I downed and eliminated a rushing Crypto went to go look for him. Lo and behold this guy was trying to use the shield revive. Needless to say he didn't get to finish using it. Me and the team then went on to finish the match for the win. 🙂
It's just a pain in the butt.
The gold protection shield it gives you is a big "thirst me please" sign.
The self revive feels like it takes a millennium to complete....and you usually either get killed the second you pull it off or the moment before completion.
Its the only gold item i entirely ignore. I just ping the thing...or i'll grab it and drop on front of a mirage if i have one on my team.
But the self-revived wins are SOOO satisfying. Had only 3 of those so far, but they were really fun. I do pull off the self revive more often than that though - rare, but not rare enough to not be happy about having the shield.
The most memorable one was a 2x3 final fight. They downed me, I slinked away while they were fighting my teammate and when they were finished with my teammate they just couldn't find me XD. They actually split to search for me and I just hunted them all 1 by 1.
P.S. Doing a self-revive is like popping a phoenix mid-fight - it's risky, it's hard, but it's game-changing, when successful.
P.P.S. I try to never show my golden shield to enemies - if they see it, my chances of self-revive plummet to almost nothing. If there's a chance to self-revive and they're busy, they won't finish me off even if I don't shield, but they might just risk it, if they do see it (well sometimes it actually is a worthy distraction for teammates to mop up).
It should be borderline useless in 95% of situations, your team have already been beaten once :S It should be a rare-as-rocking-horse-poo turn around for a team that otherwise would already be dropping into their next match.
