@ElPoundtown I’m a Masters player and why aren’t I seeing your level of player in my lobby?
The HIGH majority (about 80-85%) of my opponents are Diamond/Master/Pred. I have been studying this for over a year and posting my findings on this forum.
SBMM is 100% protecting the bulk of people from the top tier players. As a Masters player, you would think I win more than the average player, but that just isn’t true. The algorithm is pretty consistently pitting me against players that are just better than me. Despite getting Masters each split, my overall win rate hovers between 1 and 2%.

@Axs5626Sxa5001 idk man. This is why I asked the question. I guess it's just my account? Or if I played more I could theoretically get diamond or master? But I pretty thoroughly get * on by master pred players. If I'm playing out of my mind I can win a 1v1 or a 2v1 vs them but in most cases it's very unlikely as I'm not on enough to be warmed up or having enough fun to be motivated
*I think I should clarify that my whole lobby isn't diamond master pred, it's closer to ~50% but that 50% kills the 50% that isn't that rank on drop effectively making the whole lobby diamond master pred*
This is where if I get a good kit on drop I might be able to outplay if they don't all focus me or just play poorly and subsequently get * on by the rest of these players
- @ElPoundtown Appreciate your response and by no way am I trying to discredit your experience. I think different things are happening for different people. The lack of transparency has us all guessing how the system works.
My understanding of the MM in APEX is this,
Depending on what RANK you are, the system will always try & place you with similar skill leveled players.
Because you are PLAT, the game isn't going to try and place you with people who never play Ranked, or players that are at a lower level than you. (as that would be like pitting a Pro Athlete against a Child)
The TRICKY area, is when you factor in PRE-MADE squads, Now the game factors in that, you are probably more coordinated with each other as you are no longer playing with randoms.
Also, I think when it comes to PRE-MADE squads, the game takes ALL party members Account Levels, adds them together for a total squad level, & puts you with the closest levels squads playing at the time.
Then after all that, I think the game looks at how skilled each player is, with the current legend they are using. Example being: I'm Very skilled at utilizing LOBA to her max potential as a character, but because I typically ONLY play her, my skills with other Legends, are very much lacking.
The reason I say it's based on what Legend you have Featured, is because every time I play as a Legend I don't use often, I seem to be put in much LOWER TIER lobbies.
I think the game is constantly learning how good each player is with each legend, & what LEVEL or RANK they are.
Again this is just how I THINK it works, as we have never been officially told how it works.
@SILVERisSORRY Many of us don't play ranked so that can't have anything to do with pub lobbies unless they have some way of guesstimating your rank based on season/lifetime stats or something.
