The matchmaking in this game is horrendous and that would account for a match where you can single-handedly wipe an entire squad without breaking a sweat. Five shotgun shells to down a static target sounds like something else entirely. If you were "on target" for all shots but dealt no damage then that's a connection issue or a server issue.
But in general bad matchmaking will make you feel exactly like you are the best player in the world for one match and the worst player in the world for the next. You wouldn't think it would be possible (much less desirable) to build a game with a skill gap that wide, but here we are the age of the modern shooter where you can go to YouTube and watch footage of the best players and then footage of the best cheaters... and I defy anyone to tell the difference between them or prove that the "best" are not also cheating. Google Apex Legends cheats then find an online doctor to write you a prescription for Ritalin. You will be a predator in a week. And if you happen to get banned then just move over to a secondary and keep going. This is the game now.
