There are different types of third parties. There are people who actually just wait for fights to happen so that they can then third party cause that's the only way they can make some kills and there are coincidental 3rd parties that just happen when you rund around the map and hear gunshots.
Cause sure: This is a shooter. I want gunfights with enemies. So when me and my team run around the map in search for enemies and then we hear shot, sure then we say "Uhh they're fighting. Let's go there". Cause that's the point of the game. But that doesn't mean that we WANT to 3rd party. It's just that when we hear a fight we want to engage as well instead of just running around.
But that doesn't make these 3rd parties any less frustrating for the people on the receiving end. And what Bean criticizes is the fact that "coincidental third parties" as I am calling them happen so easily because - as he/she rightfully notices - you can hear gunshots across the whole map. They are bound to happen cause the point of a shooter is to shoot people and because gunshots are audible from miles away people get drawn to them from miles away when the "actual" fight is still going. Reducing the range for gunshots would help and here as well I don't think it would hurt anyone except for camping bots who can literally only make kills by 3rd partying.
And personally I also don't get much joy or feeling of accomplishment when I kill someone who has 30HP. Sure I have my kill so nice, statistical improvement. But I personally care more about the challenge of actually being good. I know, *some* people here have a different approach but personally that's how I feel. An "honorable" fight in which my team wins cause we are better is what is most rewarding and not some "Hehehe I'm camping here and hit you with one G7 shot from 200m and get the kill" kind of camping stuff.
Also also Arenas is not really an alternative cause right now the kills, wins and damage records you get there are absolutely worthless. BR kills, wins and damage records can be shown off with trackers. But no matter what you achieve in Arenas: it's completely worthless. No Badge. No tracker.
@Zero-Loot5 Fair enough, but there is no coincidental 3rd parties as you call them lol, the moment you hear that teams engagement and you decide to attack then it's a calculated decision, which is also what the majority do.
As for the team you're third partying, I doubt they see any difference between a 'coincidental 3rd party' as you put it, and a team waiting around to 3rd them....as the bottom line is the action is exactly the same.
For the record I'm not sitting on either side of the fence here, I couldn't care less if they try to reduce 3rd party scenarios or not, either way I shall remain a rambo. XD
However if they were to the gunfight audio is only a minor part of the issue, the fact mobility legends, especially legends such as valk/pathy/octane can allow their teams to traverse the map so quickly means that there will always unavoidably be 3rd partying seeing as most teams have at least one of these legends.
- 5 years agoyou have to condition yourself to heal asap. I see a lot of people stand still on a deathbox with 10 hp, not even swapping and dying to a 3rd party or trying to heal in the open and getting shot. Yes, sometimes a squad rolls up at unfortunate moment and gets cheap kills. But that will always be a problem in a fast paced BR. If I am playing ranked and my squadmates go down when a 3rd team arrives, I am outta there and will play for banner retrieval or use jumpad/portal to get them out.
My gripe is lack of audio sometimes. Had enemy squads using zipline with no audio, shadow totem users jumppadding with no sound. These areas can be improved.- hayhor5 years agoHero@BaldWraithSimp Yeah I see a lot of greedy people looting boxes without shield swapping or healing as I'm yelling into the mic heal there is another squad. They die trying to get stuff before others.
- 5 years ago@MandatoryIDtag There is 100% a difference between wanting to fight fairly but only having an ongoing fight as your only option and therefore joining that fight and being a camping female dog who only wants to do 3rd parties in the first place. The difference is not in the action or result but in the mindset.
- 5 years ago@Zero-Loot5 You can't do anything about mindsets unfortunately, it's just part of the game :/
- 5 years ago@BaldWraithSimp Well there is an importance to this because the people that do "coincidental 3rd parties" don't camp and wait for a fight until they can third party. The people that only do a third party when the situation arises (like me) would do less of these 3rd parties when they would no longer be able to hear the fight from 800m away.
So reducing the distance at which gunshots can be heard would indeed help. I'd say they should also implement this auto heal feature from the Flashpoint LTM.
3rd parties will never fully go away. That's impossible. But there ARE measures that can be taken to reduce them and to make them less appealing and nothing speaks against doing that. 👌

@Zero-Loot5 I'll happily accept that, there certainly is a difference between mindsets. However as baldy said, you can't change people's mindsets.
Let's try a hypothetical scenario here, respawn reduce audio distance for gunfire and entirely remove mobility tacticals/ults. Now everybody would have to sprint/jump tower around the map so even if they hear gunfire they then have to make it to said fight.
Simple solution right? Now Let's say a squad of players with extensive knowledge of the map, rotations and drop trends decides "hey Let's go and 3rd party some squads" they can literally just loot preempt and position themselves favourably and then it becomes a waiting game.
It's easily done, frag/skull are both extremely good examples as you can fight both areas until you're the last squads remaining, and more often than not a 3rd squad will jump in.
I just don't see how any in game changes can really limit this substantially enough to appease the masses.
- 5 years ago@MandatoryIDtag I already explained how different mindsets matter in this issue. You even "liked" that very comment of mine. It's not the mindset that gets changed but the behavior.
As I said: players that just run around the map and actually want to fight fairly and who only 3rd party when the situation is at hand wold get less options to 3rd party cause now they no longer hear shots from miles away.
And the thing is: most 3rd parties are these "conincidental 3rd parties". Most players don't camp and wait until 2 Squads fight nearby. Most people run around the map, searching for enemies. And all these players would 3rd party less when they can no longer hear fights from miles away.
I mean your hypothetical scenario first of all does a lot of assuming and furthermore: players that are have advanced knowledge and understanding of map rotations etc. are usually more offensive players. These types of players basically never do what you describe in your hypotehtical scenario. Maybe the do it once for the LOLZ but not all the time. Rather never.
And about your last statement "I just don't see how any in game changes can really limit this substantially enough to appease the masses". It doesn't have to appease the masses. There are things that you can do and when those things are done I'm pretty sure that "the masses" will also understand that the limit to what you can do is reached in terms of limiting 3rd parties. And if they don't then that's their issue.
