Nobody is more disappointed than I am that Respawn envisions Apex as team-only, but for now at least that's the way the game is.
@Palette24carats
I did not miss the ALGS part. I'm perfectly aware of how the ranking system works and why it works that way. And like I said, it works that way so the dev can throw crumbs to losers and make them feel like they accomplish something when they fail to win. How ranking systems work is irrelevant to anyone but a rank chaser. The object of the game is still to win.
@blackeyeriver
" If you are not going to participate (aka camp) so you don't fight your way to the win then it defeats the purpose of playing the game."
The single most mistaken argument made about battle royale. No one is proposing "winning without fighting." If someone, anyone, developer included, suggests that a smarter player should pick and choose their fights, or that the fewer you take the higher your odds of winning, then suddenly every rank chaser on the planet with 2% win rate comes out of the woodwork claiming that if you can't beat the #19 squad then you certainly won't be able to beat the #2 squad. Which is exactly like saying that a ton of bricks weighs more than a ton of feathers.
"Were you the best team on the map and showed it through actually playing and coming out on top? In short, no. Opportunistic perhaps, or even cowardly? but not skilled."
Keep rationalizing losses any way you want.

I get how uncomfortable everyone is with the idea that winning is rare in battle royale and therefore the game has to reward players for something besides just winning. And it does. I personally don't think it needs to, but you can all take comfort in the fact that I'm not in charge of anything around here.
- 3 years ago@reconzero Bro, I'm not rationalizing anything. I gave you the literal definition of BR, not the stuff forum members made up about survival, and still you insist that skill is measured only by winning. If that's true why don't we see every player doing it your way? Because we all know better. You know who has the most wins on the leaderboards? Their playstyle is anything but hiding. If this was Tarkov I would agree, but it's not.

While I don't really care for the rat strategy..it is still a viable strategy for br games.
Everyone has their own play styles some are more aggressive and some are more defensive while some are more stealthy.
I don't play ranked because it doesn't reward in a balanced way and the Mm is hell.
With a system that prioritizes your placement over anything else, I don't blame people for taking that rat strategy to the top. The only problem is, it makes for inaccurate lobbies, and inaccurately rewards players for a job well done when in reality all they have done is luck out in the end and don't actually deserve it.
Should your placement matter in a br? Of course, but certainly not as much as winning the match and it certainly shouldn't out weigh the other important factors that come in the br genre. Ie kills and even damage.
A team that rats and manages to last until 5th place shouldn't be rewarded more than the team who lasted 6th but at least got a single kill.
For the players with a more aggressive style kills should be worth something, otherwise, why even call it a br anymore?
It just turns into rat simulator 2023 with increased odds of wall hacks being used.
If the br ranked system only rewarded wins, I doubt anyone would play it. I didn't play the arena ranked for that very reason. Why should I work my * off, get 6 knocks, over 1k damage, carry my entire bot team, and get nothing for my efforts just because we lost?
It's infuriating to say the least and if you put that into a game mode where there's 60 players and what, 25 teams, it would probably lead to apex's very quick downfall.
You might as well just get rid of the ranked mode entirely and only have pubs.

I didn't say skill was measured only by winning. I said that if I was in charge of rankings then you would get a point for a win and no points for anything less. Not quite sure where everyone gets the idea that that would equal a game without gun fights, or a game where luck is the decider. It's harsh, yes. But it hardly removes skill from the equation. What it doesn't do is hand out anything to people who insist on treating battle royale like team deathmatch.
And you do see more people doing it this way, at least in ranked. Because the post-season-13 changes are designed to discourage hot drops and other behaviors that make winning harder for the average player who might not know any better.- 3 years ago@reconzero You are missing the point. Ranked exists to give out badges for a certain skill level. If you can manipulate that by ratting you are not demonstrating skill at all and you do not deserve said badge.
I gave you the very explanation of what a BR is - eliminating opposition until you are the last team standing. In a way it is a team deathmatch, but with many teams and a zone and no infinite respawn plus some healing so you can survive.
What you promote and have said countless times previously, is that BR is to be played as a survival game aka ratting and 3rd partying the last team. I would legit ban players that did that. It removes all skill and the whole purpose of what BR is. Fight to the top yes, be clever about it of course, don't take dumb fights - we all know this, but that does not mean you can "cleverly" rat and only fight the last team while everyone else did the hard work for you. It's borderline cheating. This is an fps game and should be played as such.
