Crossplay Friend Finding not working

So I wanted to add my nephew on Apex but when I search his username up it doesn't pop up it just says Not Found. I have read a post somewhere to this and there's no way me and him are on the same EA account. He's had his EA account longer than I have had mine. I've had mine since last year in early March. When he searches up my account it comes up and he's tried sending the friend request but they don't show up on my side I have the cross play invites set for display and I know he has his as well.
