    Very true @BaronVonGoon ,

BFStats.com was really very very good back in the days, not just for the live player population tracking for the games.  But also for the servers, our soldiers and especially all the insights on weapon and vehicle statistics!

On the Battlefield group on Reddit we together extracted all the detailed data on previous BF games around 1 year into after the launch of BF1, as we started to wonder if it was really dropping faster versus previous BF games or not.  And here below are the stats on BF4, BFHL and BF1 from back then (sorry, i do not have anymore the link to the Reddit discussion we had on this, but you might be able to search/find it again).

After BF1 had dropped below the BF4 player population on 3 consecutive months, then EA pulled the plug on the BF API component, so no 3rd parties anymore could track or report on true live game data and active player populations across the BF games across all platforms.  And that was effectively the end of BFStats.com.

    Some interesting observations are:

BF4 ramp-up suffered seriously in the first months at launch on Playstation, as you may remember that it was simply not possible to buy any PS4 the first many months there.  A bit the same situation we can say we have today with PS5, where demand is much higher than product availability.

Consoles represent by far the biggest player population for the BF games.

PC players tend to have significant shorter term loyalty to a game.  Market research points to also that PC BF players are in average much younger than the BF players on console.  AND, that they in average have many more games installed and in which they play at same time on a weekly basis.  Which maybe explains they are more teased quicker to move on to other entertainments.

There are probably more reasons why BF1 faded out so relatively fast versus the longer lasting and older BF4.  But its not all just due to the older WW setting and weapons/vehicles in the game.  The BFHardLine game faded even faster despite the contemporary setting and modern weapons.  But one can argue that it was not even a proper BF game, due to the nature of that game.

    -

Both the BF1 and especially the BFV game have picture perfect scenery and also the game mechanics in the final updated BFV game are probably the best we have had across all BF games.  Just logging on and going to one of the historic battlefield scenes is a joy for the eye.  But it obviously takes more to attract the players and keep them coming back for more of the real BF gaming.

To say there are not any PC players is inaccurate. BF4 is very active. Of course there are tons of console players. But you have to consider with every edition of the game PC players lost support from EA due regarding game browsers and anti cheats.
Consoles release about every 5 years and cost $500  or less. Naturally this takes up a majority of the market while PC gamer’s mid range graphics cards alone are $500. Every release makes it tougher for PC gamers to keep up with new game requirements. Also, many PC players have lost interest in Ported BF games that catered to console players, who received smaller maps and games with fewer people. Developers essentially dumbed down the games to target console players and a younger audience.

@Happycamper_DOD Latest consoles have almost caught up with the graphics and processing power of PC. The 'old' days when consoles could only handle half the player count of PC are gone.
After BF4, I switched from a gaming PC (which I was continuously upgrading) to a laptop and PS4 - cheaper and more convenient (oh, and no egregious hackers).
I don't see the trend away from PC to Console slowing anytime soon.

Except that games are a lot more than graphics, which some people tend to forget. All they want is shinier and shinier pixels and forget that what's under the hood matters more.

A lot of gameplay mechanics and UI features that can be more versatile on PC are dumbed down when the game is A) designed as a crossplay title or B) designed for consoles and then ported to PC.

I'm not getting into the whole PC vs. console argument because that's silly, both have their pros and downsides, but to say that there's a trend of moving from PC to console is a long shot to say the least...

(Why does the forums cencor when I write c-o-n-s...)

@IAF_Nobanaa That word is censored by the filter. I'm not sure exactly why but for whatever reason it's deemed a 'bad' word.
  • Don't agree with the OP. This game needs to be BF3 Gunplay & feel with BF4 & 5 features. That's the best way to go.

Also, from the BETA experience... I'd have to say that it is pointless to have 128 players if it ends up feeling like a 32 players Firestorm Conquest (hardly anyone around too much of the time). Everyone wants what they saw in the trailer so that insane massive map, just cut it by 2/3 or 3/5, and use the part that is cut as another Conquest, Deathmatch or whatever. That will make the game far more exciting in terms of a quick fix.  As for the rest of the issues, well, everyone pretty much covered it.

    Agreed @IAF_Nobanaa ,

In the sense that it is not a question about that games on PC is going to become extinct.  Because it is definitely not (any time soon).

But it is correct to observe that the player population on Console is continuously growing faster than the PC player segment.  (and PC licenses have already been the smallest also for the BF franchise in last many game versions vs consoles for EA)

And it is also correct to observe that the number of past PC players that drops the PC and moves onto Console gaming is also bigger than the opposite.  Because you also have some Console players that drops the console and move onto PC.  It is just not so many, as you have the other way.  And here in recent years you have the segment that moves to have both and play on both, both PC and console.  But its a smaller subset.

Actually the gaming platform that blows both PCs and Consoles far out of the water are now the last few years the mobile platform!  (smartphones and pads).  It represents already more than half of the total global gaming market in terms of $ sales.  Also reason why EA have recently started to hire big time for staff to make a dent and get a foothole in this segment, as its much much bigger business wise versus both PC and consoles.  And why even the BF franchise are now building an app for the mobile segment...

i dont think they have time or the will to change the game. Removing battlelog for example is less work and time and money for them....but they dont realise that this is what makes the difference compared to other games.
