@ForumUserI mean why change now? Is the 100 players a day using it for 30 minutes really going to save that much? Normally there is a cost-benefit analysis done and someone actually had to propose this change for whatever reason.
They are wasting manpower and dev time on trivial stuff like this that not only takes away from other fixes but makes the game worse than before.
Again why make this change?

Hi @Adamonic ,
Despite that some individual players here and there are actually having some fun in this game still to this day does unfortunately not make it a profitable game anymore for EA to support.
There are simply too few players around and they do not make any substantial additional purchases of game features/seasons/skins to make up for the daily run-time costs that EA have to pay to keep the servers running and the support staff around.
Essentially for every single extra day that EA keeps the BF2042 servers on, they sink in yet again another lump of cash that they will not get back.
So the question is simply how much they can cut down on, without loosing too much of the fanbase, so we are still 'OK' to buy the next BF license when the next BF game in the franchise comes out. And if the daily runtime costs are too high and the day for next game release too far away, then they will take drastic measures to cut their overall looses despite the negative implications for the remaining active player base (as its too small to matter in the bigger picture of things anyway).
I would say you are mostly spot on. However, even before launch, they have a projection of costs associated with the length of support this game will have. Basically when it will go end of life for support. They project all these sunk costs out ahead of time knowing that most of their revenue will come from pre-orders and purchases as launch. The player numbers do play a part, but most of the timeline is still on pace with what they planned to do since Season 1's launch.
What is happening is we are near EOL, and this is one step in that process. Season 5 was basically a freebie. It is just a new map, and maybe a weapon or gadget, but that's about it. They are really stretching this out now to get to the summer. I don't think they will do much after that, and the assumption is the new game will be released this winter, with beta coming out in September-October timeframe.
Otherwise, they are going to lose a ton of interest in this IP, especially if we have to wait another year+ for a new title.
