There are more options now if you think about it
Forced diversity is different than player options.
The spawn beacon and repairs are the free gadgets. No one is upset about DICE giving those out. It's not the crux of the issue. DICE could have made that addition months ago as 'Phase 1' of the class introduction and I doubt many would have complained.
The issue is the restricted gadget pools. Pointing to the free gadgets as justification for the restricted gadget pools doesn't make sense to me. Sure they came bundled together with the 3.2 classes, but they are independent things and should be debated separately. Existence of one doesn't justify the existence of the other.
Maybe it's just me, but when I look at the gadget selections I see an obvious best choice for most classes. Only with Recon I'd have to pause for a choice between TUGS and C5. I'm sure some people less correct than me will differ.
Assault = C5
Engineer(Lis) = C5
Support = Ammo Crate
Recon = C5 or TUGS
Were there some specialist+gadget combos that got overplayed before? Yup
Are there some specialist+gadget combos that will get overplayed going forward? Also yup.
I would have preferred DICE only addressed the problematic/overplayed combos on a case by case basis - similar to the way they handled Lis. Classes got rid of a lot of interesting combos and failed to address one of the biggest metas from before (Mackay/Sundance + C5).
If you want to celebrate classes because you enjoy the role play, enjoy the classic BF vibes, or prefer vehicles and just see this as a general nerf to infantry that's all cool and understandable. But you won't sell me on the idea that restricting the gadget pool means more options.
