Two things here,
1. I prefer a BFV approach to it, where majority of the soldiers just do a basic area ping ' having an audio feedback of what you pinged, like if it was an enemy tank or something ' but the recon with the UAV or the spotting binos ' can't remember their name ' is the only one that can 3D spot.
2. Shouldn't it be flipped where the 3D spotting is only seen by your squad and the pings are for squad and team? Seems like that would make more sense and also might tone down the effectiveness of the 3D spotting.
That way. If you are 3ded, you don't have the whole team knowing where you are at...
Just my two cents..
I think if roles were reversed and pings were shown to the entire team, the map would be way too cluttered.
I don't mind the modern ping system too much but there are times the at-a-glance context leaves a little something to be desired. Never thought I'd see an official return of doritos on the Battlefield

True, MAYBE they could balance it by having it where the spot is only seen from players within a certain proximity of the initial spot or recobs that might be glossing the target that got spotted.
Just thinking of some way where if you got spotted, you don't have the whole enemy team knowing where you are...or an enemy jet or helo that isn't even in the fight but wants to get an easy kill. 'shrugs'
I honestly like the BFV ping and spot mechanic. Just because it felt like the recons finally had something special for them. Like how medics can heal, supports can resupply, engineers can repair, yet recon never really had something like that, except the spawn beacon or those one binoculars that lazes enemy armor.
Being able to be the only one that could 3D spot the enemy kind of felt special ' shrugs'
Really felt good in 5, using the spotting scope for a friendly bomber...lol
