This is great news and a highly requested functionality.
This may give us the ability to shape how we play, with XP. We just need all the game modes available.
Very cool.

Doesn't Portal already have persistent servers?
- S3SSioN_SoL4 years agoSeasoned Ace@246stNSW According to them, "persistent" means that the server remains up when all the players have left.
Persistent according to the players, and myself, is a server that rolls over to the next map without kicking the players to the lobby.- 4 years ago
yes. Thank you, my thoughts were the same, which is why i was confused.

i reckon too little too late since most communities that once were part of BF have either left the franchise for better games or are still unwilling to pay the entry fee for this software...

Can we search for full servers in portal yet?

As I said in the Battlefield Announcement post, this is good news.
The questions I have are,
What kind of admin features are they referring to?
Will we be able to kick/ban players that are causing issues?
What modes will be made available?
Will all maps be made available?

Those are very important questions, if we get the right answers then I agree this is definitely positive news. 👍
- BR-DuaneDibbley4 years agoSeasoned AceI'd say let's wait until they are available. Since yesterday many of us cannot play the game as we experience crashes EVERY round.
My guess is that those servery will not be persistent, but will still show up in the server browser with 0/x players if nobody plays on them. That I guess would be good enough for me (why waste energy there).
A reasonable assumption is that they will have all features any normal Portal server has, so the same maps/modes we can now use to create Portal servers. This also means the same restrictions with respect to XP would apply. Which might make them less attractive for some users.
At least we might be able to find some gems then that we enjoy playing, once the new Portal maps are announced (so far I did not hear of anything like that) and won't see those abominations like '128 player Rush, 1000% DMG, HC, Full XP' bullsh*t that are 100 times less enjoyable to play on than the unbalanced '8vs8 Tactical Conquest' Dice came up with.

@Ironhead841 when you are hosting servers in portal there will be an option per screenshot in the announcement post to toggle on persistence servers. So everything you all ready can do in portal you can now do with a persistence server.

This is massive news, and I think it will give life to Portal. I can finally start a permanent Classic BF3 24/7 server...

Now, if they add in squad controls might be worth re-installing.

A very good decision, the Breakthrough mode in the portal would also be useful (currently you cannot play the breakthrough in the portal). Overall, the servers will eventually come to life, which is positive.
Now a new map for the portal could be a fantastic gift for us 😉
