I agree the contradiction is pretty stark, I just chalk it up to almost ALL advertising has a hint of deception built into it.
Trailers aside, it would seem pretty obvious from these forums, Reddit, YouTube and Twitter that they haven't delivered.
I'm (probably naively) still holding out hope they can "right the ship" so to speak.
In all honestly, I really think the lack of communication is driving a lot of the ire at this point. Going "radio silent" is not helping the franchise as this point.

Same here, my money is already spend on this so i hope it will be back on track so it deserv the name Battlefield.
But i have to admit that my hope is fading, and yes...the radio silent is pushing it further and further away in to the dark and cold depth.

Apart from some of the comments in the post directly above, I agree with all of the other posts and I am also hoping that there will be enough improvements etc in coming updates to make it more enjoyable for all.
Fingers crossed guys.!

I think you're imputing too much into "what the community wanted."
The trailers showed pretty generic 8-year-old's-Action-Man-fantasy scenes.
It's no stretch for marketing content producers to think "let's show a turbo tank and some 80s action flick bro scenes with shipping containers and helicopters."
The only seeming contradiction is how the community so uncritically swallowed it. It's like they'd been hiding in a BF4 custom server for the last 7 years.
