Any reason Console players can't type in chat box waiting for game to start?

Any reason Console players (Xbox X/S here) can't type in chat box waiting for game to start at squad screen while we wait for players? Also... would it be possible to turn off chat box in options or ...

    Chat box can be turned off.

I'm on a PS5, and that annoying box I've reduced it down to a tiny box but its still an annoying and seems to serve no purpose for console players.

You can plug in a USB keyboard so you too can insult your teammates.

Too bad all chat is gone.  Always fun to get the trash talk started early...
