Any reason Console players can't type in chat box waiting for game to start?

Any reason Console players (Xbox X/S here) can't type in chat box waiting for game to start at squad screen while we wait for players? Also... would it be possible to turn off chat box in options or ...

    Chat box can be turned off.

some of us use it.  why not just turn it off?

Can't be turned off. The YouTube video only tricks the game into hiding it but you have to sacrifice a function key on your player button mapping. It cannot be removed and seems to be completely useless to console players.
