Bad Company 2 and BF3 vs. 2042

My 1st BF game that I started putting time into was the original Bad Company. BC2 was probably the best and most fun game I've ever played with BF3 right up there as well. Well designed, good maps, unbelievable sound design, destruction was fantastic, guns were well balanced, classes all had pros and * with abilities and tradeoffs, etc. I even went back and watched some YouTube videos of these classics and was blown away by the nostalgia and just how good the games are. What has happened since then? Especially to 2042. The BF games have essentially regressed in just about every way except graphics arguably just because of technological improvements and upgraded systems to play on. Other than that, gameplay is either broken or just stale, sound design is going backwards, there's somehow LESS destruction on more powerful engines and machines running the games, it's just a mess. How can this game go from something that was borderline perfect and just building on that to being thrown around and turned into BS. Why take something that isn't broken and try to "fix" it or whatever EA wants to call what they're doing? I have a hard time wrapping my head around this. And as a longtime BF fan, it might just be time to say goodbye to BF's future and go back and play the older, better games. It's just sad, man. So many steps back when the groundwork was already laid.

  • @J_Boeschen24To me BFV and BF2042 are missing the heart and soul of a Battlefield game. Neither one feel like playing Battlefield, more like COD or some new IP. Battlefied games have historically all had their share of issues. No denying that. But the core was there. You felt like you were playing Battlefield and kept coming back for more despite exploits, balance issues, choppers farming at bases, etc.

And maps...the maps were so much better. Map design is a serious issue in BF2042 as well as flag placement on the maps they do have. Orbital is easily the best design overall, and that's not saying much of the rest.

Yeah, my best memories of the series were in BC2 and BF3.  ....although I also liked BF Vietnam, BF2 and BF2142.

I started losing interest with BF Hardline and dare I say, BF4 really didn't win me over like those of the past.  I purchased BF1 reluctantly as I wasn't too interested in a WW1 shooter. .....and even less interested in yet another WW2 game when BFV rolled around.  Couple that with the petty drama between the devs and a few trolls, changes in the game design, etc. and I passed on purchasing it.  I eventually downloaded it when it was free through my PS+ subscription. ....played the campaign and uninstalled.

Initially I was excited by the rumors that the next BF would borrow heavily from past titles like BF3 but then the reveal happened and I wrote BF2042 off.  .....that was until Portal was announced and that is the only reason I bought the game.  My hope now is that they add more BF3 and BC2 maps, weapons, etc. and other assets from past BF games I liked as well.
