This game feels like the kind of game that needs at least 4 years to get right. Throwing more studios at it doesn't necessarily help that.
I agree this game needs time and it very well may get that time. We need to keep an eye on the beta dates as this game may very well get pushed into 2022 especially if someone high up feels they will lose money in that new release window with COD and Halo.

COD is COD, nothing really new and the same players will be playing regardless. Impo, the new Halo has been looking ROUGH since it was announced so I'm not at all worried about it being 'competition'.
2042 itself can be whatever but I'm really hoping they knock Portal out of the park
- 4 years ago@TTZ_Dipsy Halo and Cod are some big titles. I think they both will out sale BF especially in that release window. Not many titles can beat COD year after year.
I am not too excited about Portal to be honest. Looks gimmicky if thats the right word. But I may be wrong, because in truth, None of us know much about BF. I would love to see some gameplay of making something in portal then everyone playing a full game. We have no full conquest gameplay either. And this is why its delayed. They are further behind than willing to admit.
I rather them not crunch and take their time enjoying the process with releases of gameplay to the community. Add in communication and the majority of community will be patient with them. - carsono3114 years agoSeasoned Ace
@ghinavirusSimilar sentiments about Portal. I have serious doubts about its real capabilities.
Perhaps it will launch at smaller scale / with more constraints on it, but as you said, who knows? Information, of any kind really, would be nice. - TTZ_Dipsy4 years agoHero+
@ghinavirus COD will definitely outsell most if not all games (honestly I don't get the appeal but hey, whatever floats your boat), and Halo will probably sell amazingly well too but purchases vs longevity are two completely different things.
I'm intrigued by Portal because it appears to be Community Games/RSP on steroids - This will be amazing for Leagues and community-driven events like Bottletop, FNB, and Silly/Munky Sundays to name a few. Being able to create custom matches with assets from multiple titles should allow for creativity to shine and hopefully bring new and old players back into the fold after seeing stuff on social media.
We got glimpses but you're right, we definitely need some more in-depth showcases how everything works: new control areas in CQ, and Portal Editor + sharing are top priority, personally. Beta should give us all we need to know about Specialists and how the gadgets will function on the fly - 4 years ago@TTZ_Dipsy I feel the same about COD. Just doesnt make me excited like it once did.
I truly hope Portal is special for the community. It could put the franchise a notch or 2 up especially in a time where gaming tends to have peaked.
Fingers crossed for all my BF homies where we get a great release and enjoyable experience. - GrizzGolf4 years agoSeasoned Ace
I know it will just be the beta but we will be playing BF 2042 sometime near the end of the month I bet.
- TankerFlanker4 years agoSeasoned Ace@ghinavirus Hey Pony here, but I for one am SICK and damn tired of every single game thinking it needs a battlepass like thing, it seems every damn game these days feel they need to add one and it certainly puts me off on some games.
- TankerFlanker4 years agoSeasoned Ace
@TTZ_DipsyWell when 343i added in the loot crates crap and then their worse Halo campaigns it started going downhill for me, I loved Halo all the way through to Reach and then 343i took over, I barely managed to beat the campaign for 4 and then idk if I even got half way through with 5 I just couldn't do it.
- 4 years ago@TTZ_Dipsy If portal delivers on even half of the potential shown in the promo video, they could probably have released the actual tech test client and people would be fine busying themselves there while the rest of the game was finished.
- 4 years ago@TankerFlanker that COD money. They all chase that COD money. Look at the many fools who buy these cosmetics. Of course influencers well influence it.
And thats another thing. Nobody has seen any details or UI within the game about the battlepass. We all are sitting in a room shrugging our shoulders at one another. - 4 years ago
It's frustrating, I know, but we got this far, let's wait a little more. This pandemic has slowed us down in many ways, let's try to be patient.
- 4 years ago@ghinavirus I don't understand the whole 2 years thing unless it's something outside the box like a Bad Company 3. If Live Service actually works, theoretically they could just keep adding on to it indefinitely. Not to throw salt in the Battlefront 2 wound, but if that game launches well, we might still be getting content off Mandalorian, Bad Batch, and Book of Boba Fett.
- 4 years ago@ArchAngeL-PCX It'll probably be more like Destiny (at least i damn well hope so, can do without the fortnite model) with "seasons" that are themed, but not in the fortnite sense.
If it's like destiny it'll be new story snippets along with new guns and maybe a map or game mode for each content dump.
I just really hope they don't use the same grind until you unlock model from destiny/BF5, I'm fine with it in some games, BF just happens not to be one of them.
(to be clear here, i'm fine with grinding to unlock things, i just don't want it on an arbitrary XP wheel with no say in what i can focus on)
Seeing as it's been stated there's going to be a narrative arc but we have no singleplayer, that would make the most sense, but speculation on my part.
I don't see how they can keep a narrative going without making it part of the seasonal update model though. - GrizzGolf4 years agoSeasoned Ace
Well all we can do is hope next week they drop info on the beta to keep us busy.
I have been having fun with Vanguard other than the TTK is insane. Also AOE4 stress test drops today

I really wonder when corpopropaganda came up with game as service, because there are layers of logical problems/contradictions. I guess they want to be unable to be held accountable for how miserable their behavior is toward the wallet, subpar product. It seems to me that is projects hostility toward their customer, as an idea of you buying and owning something. It means that they are forced to provide what you bought. Isnt service supposed to justify any bad behavior as nothing since you 'owned nothing' from the start anyway ?
If so, then such a behavior smells of great fear, which breeds hostility. In the end, Im not really bothered with what they do, because it only affects those who abide by their 'rules'/terms, usually after the even pay. It is funny also how they changed the wording on origin, where they say 'get the game' instead of buy. It means you should never pay if you dont buy anything. I would never have expected EA to turn into a non-profit though. I wasnt so optimistic of EA previously. I wonder when they will start to give out the money to the poor 🙂 EA former CEOs working the field with hand instruments. Such an inspiration 🙂
- 4 years ago@ArchAngeL-PCX I think it's following more like COD. Everybody in COD community complains about the yearly cycle. So EA said we will do it every 2 years and see if we can win some of the COD players to BF. We are doing everything like COD now😕pecialists, battlepass, warzone.
Just my 2 cents. There will be a new game every 2 years according to their plans but that can change. - 4 years ago
@ghinavirus Can you link where EA said that?
- 4 years ago@1Hairy-Gorilla here you go. Andrew Wilson said this in earnings call Q3 of this year.

@ghinavirus Ok this works for CoD as they got every studio over there working on CoD...
GAAS but not really? So post launch Live team only main team off to BF 2023 So few new maps and a boat load of skins? I don't see how they can do both giving their time lines for normal releases. Guess I can see why they got portal let the community make the game.
So how do they think they can pull this off.
@1Hairy-Gorillacosmetics and battlepasses. Probably double and triple XP tokens. Anime camos and anime gun skins. Thats what they will do. Maybe even pay wall a few guns but will let you unlock it for free with a grind of course. Just the usual ways is how they will do it.
They have APEX to compete with fortnite(epic I know)
They want BF to compete with COD multiplayer
They want hazard zone to compete with warzone.
Its EA versus Activision like Playstation versus Xbox. - ragnarok0134 years agoHero+

@TTZ_Dipsy I'm a Halo player and while Halo 5 was almost universally reviled (I'm seeing a pattern with games having 5 in the title) the Halo Infinite "Flights" (play tests) have been been well received and the multiplayer is looking solid so I'm still excited for Halo. The devs are also listening to the long time players unlike in Halo 4/5 which is a positive change. I'm not excited for the multiplayer to be F2P in Halo but I'll have to see how aggressive the monetization is as well as the AC impact. I'm hearing reports from the COD beta that it's really rough and I'm baffled by the no factions thing in a WWII shooter.
I'm super excited for Portal and think it will basically be the main game for many.

@ragnarok013 No sound in the beta and bad visibility like in recent games... They have alot to fix but with no more tests its blind faith on Sledgehammer to fix these... MTX in Halo As far as I know there is a Battlepass but it doesn't expire or have a time limit, can't buy stuff direct(might have changed)
Hehehe insert BF2042 as no factions either lol its away to sell more skins, ATM in Coldwar there are two sides so 50% of the time you don't get the skin you wanted. (in a FPS game mind you)
Portal is what might draw me, if they not just treated like private match's where nothing counts, if that happens I'd say it will die off quickly.
@GrizzGolfoh for sure as i think competition is the best for all industries as the consumer benefits greatly.
However, I really don't want to see anime or players running around in a bunny suit like someone mentioned lol. It will be interesting to see these cosmetics. This is something Dice can discuss with us before release. What kind of cosmetics are they planning? Game is delayed ok, come talk to us about battlepass and cosmetics. i am sure most of that is ready to go. Show us some UI of battlepass and maybe a skin or 2. - ragnarok0134 years agoHero+

@1Hairy-Gorilla I share your sentiments on both Halo and Battlefield. One thing that I like in Halo's Battlepass system is that they are permanent since the MCC and it's a solid system too. Permanent Battlepasses solve the majority of my woes with that system (but not all) so I hope 2042 has permanent Battlepasses too and not the limited time nonsense like we had in BF5.
Portal will have to allow progression or it's DOA for the same reasons nobody plays unranked servers in previous titles - nobody likes to waste their time when they have to complete a Battlepass.
