@ghinavirusI believe PS is by far the largest player base.
It's PC and X-Box that are relatively speaking quite small in comparison.
I get why Cross Play sucks at the moment for X-Box players but in terms of longevity it should be of benefit to both platforms.
Apart from obviously playing with friends Cross Play offers little to the PS player base.I'm a PS5 owner and that's pretty much the way I view it. There really is no benefit of cross-play for me. That might change if perhaps I had a friend with an XB but I don't. All of my buddies are on PS4 and PS5. .....so really the only thing that matters to me for MP is cross-gen so I can still play with those friends of mine that can't or won't buy a PS5. We also prefer to use PS comms rather than in-game voice chat most times so again, that limits us to those of us on PS platforms.
Not that I would mind cross-play but I would only consider it with PS and XB players in a game like this (not PC). ....but to your point, unless the player pool for PS is low, I don't see an upside for it.

I think the data is misleading because it is only addressing the data from Steam. This doesn't track all the platforms which is not shared, only thing we know is that 2042 did better than BFV. Expect a natural reduction as the holidays come and people get new games to play...just the natural regression.
Aside from releasing a very buggy, unfinished game I think there is another reason player count is down. Many don't want to hear this, but shooters need a streamer friendly mode to be relevant now a days. Most of BF modes aren't streamer friendly to start, and the lack of Solo friendly modes also hurt this. (I think Halo will also run into issues in a couple months too as streamers won't want to endlessly stream Slayer, Team Slayer, CTF, etc.). Modern shooters NEED a Battle Royale mode. Hazard Zone needed to be much better, and/or they simply needed to have a proper BR mode to hold streamer's attention. (Which in turn helps with player activity and retention). It isn't the entire answer, but it is part of it.
- @BFB-Praetorian Im at rank 67.
I was just trying to say that a lot of people don't have time to play a whole lot. The few people I know who have the game, are still playing when they have time. None of them are at rank 25 yet. Im way past that point myself though - @CountSero There will be more than enough players at any point in time between now and until the next Battlefield is released.
Im not sure why people seem worried. Every battlefield game has started of with massive drops in the active playerbase because of bugs and issues. BF4 was horrible at release.
None of the games have ever died. There's always plenty of players left at the end of the day. This game won't be any different.

Part of the drop is that the trend is still towards battle royal games still, and if streamers are not streaming the game it lowers the amount of "buzz".
But @BizzyVaping is right too, there traditionally always have been drops, and then when patches and DLC's come out there has been a big jump again. I am optimistic once things iron out, you will see it rise again.
- CountSero4 years agoSeasoned Ace@BizzyVaping yeah, I think the same mate
I only wanted to point out that release numbers are not the final numbers
(Also, on steam there where many players with EA play which only tested for a review...)
and a good example here is new world on steam there was a drop around 80%+ from release to today ^^ - @VBALL_MVP Yeah DLC and patches will do a lot, and once they remove the limits from Portal im sure that will explode in popularity
Portal is a lot better than the main game, but not many are playing it because they can't unlock attachments through it at the moment.
Honestly I think Portal will still be active many years from now. It is the single best addition to any new game in the history of battlefield.

Also as much as I dislike youtubers, once portal comes back and the YT celebrities' start putting gameplay of portal I am pretty sure people will come back. It is sad how much influence these YouTubers have on a game.
