It might happen, and it might not.
The thing that companies do, mainly Ubisoft, is that they will make a game and then make a cinematic for trailers and game reveals that looks almost nothing like the game itself. Yes, it has the same gimmick as the finished product but the visuals and animations are so different. Take Rainbow Six Siege for example. If you watch the trailer, it looks something out of a movie, but then you compare it to the game and yes it still looks fairly nice but nothing compared to the trailer.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a good example too. The gameplay that the company has provided looks nice and polished with no bugs, but the product that the users were given is absolute trash.
Companies know that not every PC can run their latest games but they still want to profit and that is also why they downgrade. All for commercial value.
- @PaperAssassin-PC Honestly I cannot see that happening.
Like BFV did with it being the first game to ship with Raytraced reflections,
global illumination etc, I reckon 2042 will set a new standard in fidelity and push things further. I guess only time will tell
- @PaperAssassin-PC Different Dev's, different engines, also never has dice done this
Im guessing EA looked at the numbers for PC players of FIFA on PC, and therefore all that potential UT cash and didn't think it was worth it. An FPS on PC is a different beast all together and they wouldnt want to be missing out on those sales.

To be honest, I've never seen a bf game running on a beast PC with ultra on all settings. I'd always imagined that the HD would nearly match the trailer quality on a very high end machine. what spec machine do they use to capture the trailer content?

DICE cannot afford to have their upcoming flagship game be with downgraded graphics, especially when (usually and to a somewhat of a success) BF titles in the past were leading with game tech.
If they will downgrade the graphics, it might be advantageous to the people like myself who have low graphics card in their PCs such as the GT 1030 so they and myself can play the game at low graphics settings.
However, I don't see it happening anytime soon...

Now with the newer systems I'm pretty sure we will mostly see it on old gen or cheap pc's

@PaperAssassin-PCCannot see that happening.
The Battlefield series has maintained impressive visuals across a broad range of hardware.
Now, with more visual fidelity techniques / technologies available on the PC and the most robust / capable consoles ever, I do not think we have to worry too much about visual downgrades.
