Battlefield Going Open World

This is a rumor so take with a grain of salt but what is your opinion about Battlefield going open world? I'm personally not real thrilled.

Next Battlefield Game Could Be Open World (msn.com)

  • @sk1lld I assume their BR gamemode thing will be "open world" but hopefully regular matches stay the same. I don't play any BRs but I imagine people call Fortnite and Warzone "open world"?

@OskooI_007 I actually don't mind waiting for vehicles to become available. I always play with friends while talking on the mic. Getting stuck on the field with friends and figuring out a way to get somewhere is part of the fun for me. Exposure is an amazing map for all this. I feel there are enough vehicles in the game. I would not say no to more though .

It's definitely relative I suppose, if you're stuck without a vehicle because of some kind of user error then it's perfectly fine, but the problem I'd wager is that 2042 failed to learn from the problems in previous Battlefield titles, the whole point of the vehicle call-in system with the tablet was to eradicate that limbo where you're stuck without a vehicle. But that tablet in my opinion, never really amounted to anything besides vehicles ending up on rooftops.

I think Dice has to experiment a bit. The FPS genre lately is very stale. Sameness.
Maybe a battlefield universe is a good idea.
They should play it safe though. Make a traditionally safe battlefield game but also make a BR game for revenue. Let the kids run around in silly costumes and spend a ton of money on it. Thank you.

I also would love an open world battlefield game like Red Dead redemption. I could team up with friends go around the map and chose my battles. Have a 'home base' i could defend or take from other teams. Experimenting is a good thing, that is how the BR genre was born and everyone is copying it.
Of course all this on top of a traditional safe battlefield multiplayer game.

I could see that sorta game being fun BUT it would be better suited as a Battlefield spin-off title, at that point it's not Battlefield anymore.

No. Please no. Why cant we just get a BF like the old days. But I guess they need to sell to the current market of young gamers. Man some of us are getting old lol

I agree with what you said, I would like a fallback to BF4 days game play with maybe modern weapons and no political Russia vs US BS.

I know I am in minority here but I actually don't mind if there's no vehicles available and I am stuck on a field under a tree and have to wait. It's part of the fun. I also think calling in vehicles anywhere in the game added to the fun at least for me.  The game is more interesting. Leads to things like going up in an elevator and when the door opens there's a tank in front of you. Never had this much fun game in my life.
I think there's two types of battlefield gamers these days. There's the Enders type (run and gun, hates vehicles and snipers and big maps) and then there's the Squid G type. I definitely belong in the latter category.
