I think that the whole idea that there is a more modern audience that a franchise needs to change to adapt to is a whole lot of baloney.
Players regardless of their generation desire high quality products.
2024 was a year of great failure for companies who thought they should target outside the niche their game is for and appealed to almost nobody
Battlefield more of less found its golden ratio with BF3, BF4 and some elements of BF1.
If people want to go for a hero shooter, there are much better properties than what EA has or can make atm.
Age of Empires 2 is an example of a "old" game that seems to be outselling all its sequels and it rightfully got several remasters and new expansions.
Crazy how AOE2 is still going today.
But on the BF topic, I hope it returns more to its roots like 3/4. Plus with 64 player maps I have hope it wont be like the mess of the 2042 maps
AoE2 is an example of how the best idea when you have a winning formula is to just hold on to it and just replace the old construction materials with brand new ones of the same quality without changing the design of the structure.
A BF3/4 that gets updated in models, textures and gets expanded in maps, modes, vehicles and weapons, is the ultimate AoE2-like winning formula for BF

One thing for me personally that BF2042 did better than all previous titles are the LARGE maps. The original 7-8 maps are the most enjoyable maps for me in the entire franchise history. Not necessarily 128 players, but the larger map size, more capture points and the variety of the flag areas. I believe we had many large maps in BF2, BF BC, BC2, BF4 and BFV as well. I just hope there would be no more small hallway shooter maps like redacted or stadium. etc. For me, large maps mean the roots of BF. We can have a server browser, factions, no more specialists, classes etc. they all mean NOTHING if i have to play on small maps like mentioned above without vehicles. If I think of the roots of battlefield, this comes to my mind: large maps with vehicles, destruction, classes, server browser, but mostly LARGE maps.
Battlefield without vehicle focus is just not Battlefield for me. 2042 is guilty of making vehicles a lot worse to use in several ways, big 2042 maps be damned
