I'm not sure what type of punishment you thinking of. But as i remember back in the days in BF4 as i saw on Battlelog stats, a match where you left before it even ended (cause you didn't want to lose), was counted as a "lost" match anyways.
So something like this sounds more than enough for me, if it would just be counting like that also for stats in BF 2042.
Beside that, some people maybe didn't want to leave. Who knows.
Maybe their internet connection died, or anything else happened.

With all the connection issues we have had, I would be surprised if most people didn't already have a much higher quit% than in previous battlefield games.
I would never quit because off an incoming loss. It's just a game and I really don't care that much tbh, but I have lost connection to the servers a bunch of times, or had to quit matches because the rubberbanding before the patch made it impossible to play.
Im just not going to stay in a match that has rubberbanding to the point where I get pulled back 5 feet for every 10 feet i run.
