BF 2042 - Can a PS5 player join a friend who’s playing a match on PS4?

Tbh, I can't believe that they're not having the option to play cross gen.

I get that ps4s would struggle with the larger server population BUT what's the issue with ps5s dropping down to smaller server numbers?

Also this now offers a dilemma for me personally as most of the people I play with are on ps4. Had to put on hold selling my PS4 now, suppose it saves me a bit of £.

One question though. I buy the ps4 gold addition, can I pop that in my Ps5 and play 128 servers?

@Prep768 I wonder that too, indeed does it matter whether we buy it for 4 or 5 or do we need 2 copies? (not doing that!)

    @Trokey66 yes you need two copies because the PS4 and PS5 are two different versions even that EA is claiming it will only affect "Playernumbers" and "Mapsizes". You can view like something back in 2013 when Battlefield 4 got released, EA was also Releasing a PS3 version and a PS4 version. PS3 version had also lower Playercounts and if I remember correctly changed maps.

        @Trokey66 No it isn't. OP is asking for "being able to play with his friends as a PS5 user" and not if he is able to play with the PS5 version. With a PS5 version you are unable to play with PS4 players but with the PS4 version installed on the PS5 you are able to play with PS4 players.
        It's also called "cross-gen bundle" and means that it contains the current version as also the last gen version of Battlefield 2042.
        Cross-Gen and Crossplay are two different things.
        Cross-Gen means cross-generations, which let you give both version the "last gen version (PS4) and current gen version (PS5).
        Crossplay means otherwise to be able to play with other systems like PS4&Xbox One or PS5&Xbox One &PC.

    Lol no u just need to buy the gold edition and download the ps4 version on ur harddrive

      This thread you bumped is old and things have changed since then.

      ....so let's be clear here. No, you no longer have to buy the Gold or Ultimate edition of BF2042 to get the PS5 and PS4 version of the game. Both are available in the PS5 Standard Edition for $69.   To clarify, that is not the PS4 Standard Edition for $59.  .....only the PS5 version will have both.

      All that would be required at that point to play with PS4 friends would be to load up the PS4 version and you're good to go.  Progress is carried over between the two.
