- @Trokey66 No it isn't. OP is asking for "being able to play with his friends as a PS5 user" and not if he is able to play with the PS5 version. With a PS5 version you are unable to play with PS4 players but with the PS4 version installed on the PS5 you are able to play with PS4 players.
It's also called "cross-gen bundle" and means that it contains the current version as also the last gen version of Battlefield 2042.
Cross-Gen and Crossplay are two different things.
Cross-Gen means cross-generations, which let you give both version the "last gen version (PS4) and current gen version (PS5).
Crossplay means otherwise to be able to play with other systems like PS4&Xbox One or PS5&Xbox One &PC. - @CloudMcRip but earlier you said I need to get 2 copies.....
I know the difference between cross play and cross gen.
Cross play is sorted in that PS4 and PS5 cannot play the full game together.
However, and this is where you answer above adds to the confusion, does the 'cross play bundle' allow PS4 and PS5 to play together on the PS4 version without being an additional copy of the game? DICE really need to clarify this issue, hopefully on the 22nd.
Good thing I still have my PS4 pro....just incase they do not toss out a physical disc gold and ultimate edition.

edit: reworded my post. This is based on an educated guess - please wait for an official response by EA
There won't be native PS5 vs PS4 cross-play (at least at launch, you never know what might happen in the future).
That said, you should be able to play PS4 users on your PS5 but you will need to be playing the PS4 version of the game on your system (one of the editions has a 'cross-gen bundle' with both versions)
On PS5 you can press the options button on the game tile to select which version you want to play. - @TTZ_Dipsy Thanks for that info.
Seems the only way to play cross-gen on the PS5 currently is to have the PS4 version of the game on your PS5. Might be useful to get the cross-gen bundle incase your friends upgrade in the future to the PS5.
I'm not sure if EA/Dice would add cross-gen with their cross-play at a later date due to the hardware capabilities and limitations of the previous gen (it's had a lot of progress in 8 years in the computing world) but it might down the track. Thanks to @CloudMcRip @TTZ_Dipsy and everyone else who replied. @TTZ_Dipsy I assume that you have play tested the game on PS5 and that is where you got your insights from? So, the offerings which have the Cross-Gen Bundle will allow PS5 players to choose which version they would like to play. As I stated earlier, I don't mind playing 64 player games as long as I play with my squad.
It would be great if DICE could corroborate this, so that its official.

@da_dingBAT
The Cross-gen bundle is meant more for old-gen players and acts as a free upgrade voucher if/when you're able to snag a next-gen console.
*I haven't playtested the game yet* - It requires a full download of each version, but every multigenerational game I have on my PS5 allows me to choose which version I play (to be fair, most games also allow cross gen play), so I guess technically, my post is based off an educated guess.
Having said that, I have pinged the CM about this and he'll ask around so hang tight. - @TTZ_Dipsy Thank you for clearing that up and for messaging the CM about this! I am a new PS5 user and only have BF V on my console - no cross-gen titles. I never knew that cross-gen titles offered these options for players to pick which version they wanted to play.
Will wait for a response from you/CM. Thanks!
