BF2042 has an interesting implementation of the mortar

I do not know how many others have noticed it, but  the armored vehicles (MBT, Wildcat and MAV) have a 60mm mortar pod as one of the modules for the 3rd seat of these vehicles.

What makes it unique compared to the mortars in some previous titles is that it has no "point and click" minimap to pick places to shoot it at. It works like in reality with manually adjusting the angle of the mortar and trying to figure out the right angle to hit someone. Because of that it was allowed to be ohk in a direct hit or nearly direct hit.

I wonder if we will see more of that manual style of mortar over the course of the game. The main complaint in older titles was that the mortar was a point and click minigame, perhaps this is the solution.

@BlurKiller Since it is an accessory to the tanks, it means that it is mainly there to protect the tank from threats, so the range makes some sense for a passenger module.

A standalone mortar would have bigger range
