Blame it on Halo...
Freudian psychology discusses why people externalise blame. In a nutshell, they are about self-defence and protecting one's ego.
We have seen this many times and in the last few years in particular, but I won't get into that area....
In the DICE townhall recently, Laura Miele, EA's chief studios officer, said the company "failed to meet the expectations of our players, and also clearly missed our own expectations".
One of the reasons for this failure was stated by Miele as the launch of Halo Infinite. The reason put forward was that Halo was a more polished product than BF2042 and it's MP was free-to-play, while BF2042 was receiving huge negative attention.
OK, sure...
But then Miele goes on to say that [Battlefield] player's expectations had changed and that it wasn't the right choice to retain the company's previous standards.
What?
They have a long running franchise in Battlefield which had sort of proved successful with players.
I think players were expecting something along the lines that they had become accustomed to in Battlefield titles. Nothing more. At least not anything substantially different from the Battlefield series.
I don't believe large numbers of Battlefield players suddenly flocked to Halo at the time of 2042 release 'because it was a more polished product'. Halo is a substantially different game from Battlefield.
To me, this all indicates deeper issues in EA mindsets and one that is becoming more widespread in global thinking.
Just blame it on Halo.
I'm going home to kick the Cat.
