Breakthrough without air is still dumb

(Actual Dice statement)

In Breakthrough this means that we've made the decision to remove Jets and Attack Heli's from play for this mode. Air Transport remains available, but due to the linear layout of Breakthrough we feel a focus on ground warfare offers the best gameplay experience. In our observation we also noticed that Air Attack was overly dominant in this mode, while having little room little room to navigate due to the smaller and linear layout of Breakthrough.

Conquest will still have all vehicle types available for play if you're keen to jump into Jets, or Attack Heli's.

Lastly, we understand this is a change to gameplay and will require getting used to. We'll carefully continue monitoring how this plays out, and we're open to your feedback about how you feel the new Vehicle Categorization is playing out now that Season 3 is available for play.

"In Breakthrough this means that we've made the decision to remove Jets and Attack Heli's from play for this mode" Makes about as much sense if you did this for Conquest. Considering BT is supposed to be the other large scale alternative to CQ.

"Air Transport remains available" Leaving nothing else left to counter them. Very smart move.

"we feel a focus on ground warfare offers the best gameplay experience" Alienating your Breakthrough only players who prefer BT over CQ. Notice they said we feel and mentioned nothing about player feedback when making this decision. They just decided for us.

"In our observation we also noticed that Air Attack was overly dominant in this mode" You mean just the Nightbird? Because i remember the Apache/Hokum being pathetic.

"Conquest will still have all vehicle types available for play if you're keen to jump into Jets, or Attack Heli's" I quit playing altogether & migrated over to Conquest. Even though i'm an infantry main. I'm not about to waste my time playing something that lacks the fundamental aspects that makes BF different from everything else.

Lastly, we understand this is a change to gameplay and will require getting used to. Get used to what!? Not seeing or hearing attack helis & Jets in a modern era Battlefield with jets and attack helis on the box art.

Well done Dice because all you did was make me go play CQ over BT in 2042. Even though Breakthrough was the only reason i bought your game day one, full price. 2042 CQ is so mid & luke warm it makes me want to vomit. The other alternative is MW Ground war and i can't stand that for more than a week after i'm burnt out from your mid CQ mode. Please make BT a mode on equal footing with Conquest again. I could play BT for hours without getting burnt out. But without air power it just feels wrong and like something is missing. Now if only you Devs could see reason.

  • Removing the aircraft from BR instead of balancing their presence on the attacker team with an equal counter-force on the defending team was a really bad band-air fix that left 2042 BR less of a Battlefield game mode (my personal image of the iconic Battlefield game mode always has complete combined arms, nothing excluded).

When they did this, I tried to host my own server in portal but with the removed vehicles put back, only to realize that the portal builder only allows you to exclude things and not add vehicles/weapons not present in the "default" package for the mode.

Which also adds to the list of the failures of the "love letter" that is Portal

  • When they announced that Jets were being separated from the AH category, i really thought that would've alleviated the issues of Stealth helis hovering in stealth mode above Surface to air range and Nightbirds being practically uncontested.

Not to mention that there's so many AA options that the WW1 (Operations) and WW2 (Breakthrough) BF games didn't have. You'd have to worry about Stingers, Wildcat, EBLC RAMs AA, other Attack helis & Jets, even the recoiless M5.

I've suggested at least having 1 of each vehicle per team at every sector because that's better than playing essentially an infantry only slug fest every single map.

I actually did play one match of 2042 Breakthrough just to see what would happen, my jaw literally hit the floor because it was fresh & full 64P match & i kid you not, it ended in a little over 5 mins. Blazed through all sectors in 5 mins. That never happened before vehicles were removed. The battles actually lasted at least 20 plus mins. 12 mins a couple times on Manifest was the quickest I've seen in 1 year of 2042 Breakthrough.

Post update 2042 Breakthrough is such a mockery from how Operations was in BF1.
