Bullet velocity

Playing BF4 vs I or V — seems like the bullet velocity is more appropriate in the newer games and hoping that’s the way the new one plays. Thoughts?

  • Oh man you should have seen sniper rifles on release in BF4. It was like shooting a rainbow every time you fired. Eventually they sped it up but yeah it was bad. Velocity should pick up a bit given this will take place in 2042 and given the longer distances.

  • I like sniping in BF1 best. Bullets fly fast without much drop. I didn't enjoy sniping in BFV nearly as much due to the slower bullet speed. Felt laggy compared to BF1.

@OskooI_007 Yeah BF1 kinda felt like a mea culpa for BF4 sniping and then BFV was a course (over)correction for BF1. Here's to hoping they find a good balance in 2042 - the game not the year.
  • I used snipers rifles on BFV today for a couple of challenges (Daily and Weekly) and almost felt like I had turned the wrong game on. Slow bullet velocity and the number of players sprinting, jumping and sliding about made it feel as if I was still on Fortnite with my grandson. I was going to say at least we don't have building, but I suppose in a way we do. As for the magic scope glint getting me killed by a tank in the distance while I was prone in cover, ridiculous.

Too many things coming over from COD and Fortnite. Battlefield games made their own niche in the market and were loved for it. I don't understand why they keep trying to emulate others that are totally different.

May be just a bit of nostalgia, but the sniper experience on Bad Company 2 felt much better.

I personally like the BAs in BFV. They still feel powerful but are not quite as easy as in BF1 (no sweetspot).

I would even say that the headshot-hitbox in BFV is too big, make it like BF1 again.

BF4 was a total joke, hopefully we will not get back to that.

  • @hairy1611 Yet people think BF4 has the better gunplay.

They need to keep what was established with BFV. There is no doubt it has the best gunplay to date.
  • I assume positive comments on BA's in V are post buff? They didn't seem useable before that as semi auto's were more versatile with faster velocities and no drop or movement penalties but only needed 1 more bullet and had the same range.

For me on V the bullets of weapons with bullet velocities below a certain amount acted very weird and looked like they curling, especially if you tried to fire while moving. I'm hoping the next game will be "spongier" and then you can have faster bullets, and maybe differentiate between weapons more with firing speeds and accuracy.

I feel V had some major problems trying to balance weapons, differentiating smgs when everything killed in the same amount of bullets for instance, and letting mmg's/lmg's spin on their back made them as good in short range as long as it took away the cone directional fire.

And there was a hell of a lot of pointless faffing about so I get very confused when people say it had good gunplay and it really depends at what point you are looking at the game.

Would like to see the vast majority of weapons available on release rather than with live service so they can balance them properly and make them all feel like they belong to the same game and not bring in a random thing that becomes meta like a type2A or federov part way through.

Also they rebalanced pistol carbines with a nerf to uselessness and made them worse than normal pistols... pistols shouldn't be better than main hand weapons.

But mostly bullet velocity needs to make sense in the context of the player movement of the game, and if they change weps or movement  post release they need to change the other accordingly.

  • @OskooI_007 Same. I really enjoyed BF1's. I was glued to an iron sight Martini-Henry and ran around as a mid range to close range fighter. That 1 round per chamber elephant round shot was just the right feeling. And the sound it gave off <3

It is not just bullet velocity.

Look at the last 3 BF.

BF4 had the biggest hit zone and slowest veloicty.

BF1 had the smallest hit zone and some fast velocity.

BFV had slight bigger hit zone than BF1 with similar velocity.

BF4 had a mix of gravity on bullets.

BF1 had drag and gravity causing bullets to curve more the distance travelled.

BFV had the same as BF1, but higher drag and lower gravity.

Distance and range is different.  BFV has shorter range than BF1(1000m), both far less than BF4(6000m)

Looking at BF2042, i am hoping we have BF1/BFV hitboxes, BF1/V velocity, mixed gravity and low drag.  We also need powerful scopes like x40.  This would make it easier to hit while making it harder to kill and should make some rifles batter for targeting at long range.  On top with the ➕ system should make range and target type more interesting.
