We do not need to upload the shaders, crash reports, cache changes, etc to onedrive.

Same thing here, but with Google Drive. Noticed I have nearly 800mb in the My Documents\Battlefield 2042\cache folder.

No, it is not working correctly, as far as I know we can delete fairly easily if it's a required resource for the game because we can find it in our documents folder when we click on our user profile on our PCs.
The main problem for us is that this cache saves thousands of files, and they keep getting uploaded to One Drive or Google Drive because both options (Microsoft and Google) offer the default Back up of files in the folders on "Pictures" and "Documents".
One Drive has detected around 3,200 files uploaded for me, which means that is a lot of bandwidth used and now I have to manually delete all of these files in both One Drive and PC.

Howdy Jv04,
This error is indeed very unnecessary.
In just 10 hours of playing Battlefield 2042 in multiple sessions, my cache folder increased by 1.5Gigabytes with 2500 files, which indeed were uploaded by OneDrive.
To prevent unnecessary uploads, and save bandwidth for gaming, I 'paused' OneDrive synchronization for 8 hours.
Meanwhile, EA should consider cleaning up the Old Cache files when the game is shutdown or started. They seem to be DX12 related.
When big amounts of files are stored in one folder, most hard drives need significantly more time reading the directory contents, each time a program is reading the folder content, which is clearly visible once the amount of files exceeds 5000.
I hope EA, fixes this issue quickly, since many people are questioning this issue, in this thread.
See ya in the game!!

Speedie

Dear EA Manager
Simple fix: move the folder. Battlefield V also had a hidden folder in the Appdata folder.
C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Battlefield 2042\cache
to
C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Battlefield 2042\cache
Thank you

As the title says, Cache folder needs to be moved out of Documents folder.
Why? Many Windows 10 users use the built in OneDrive for file synchronization. If EA/Dice aren't aware, the folder adds up to about 1 to 1.1 GB when everything is Cached up to ONeDrive.
1GB of Cache Crap is nonce to have synchronized any many are therefore forced to disable Documents Sync. And Deleting it won't help because they are re-created again when playing the game.
And Why is this annoying? People with low bandwidth internet gets the pain for uploading 1GB which may take a lot of time and they may not even know it.
Dice shoud move Cache from:
C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Battlefield 2042\cache
to someting like
C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Origin\Battlefield 2042\cache
To my knowlegde, Battlefield V didn't cache large folder in Documents.

Would be nice to be able to change the location for the cache so I can put them on one of my faster drives

CHANGE THE FOLDER THATS IS SYNC IN YOUR GOOGLE DRIVE SETTINGS

i don't know why they don't use the same folder as the game, most of the player would not have any issues then (because most use an SSD\NVME for games)
also, my document folder is placed on a classic HDD because i thought hey for documents, config such a drive would be enough never thought that games will put more than configs and saves there...

Previous posts about this issue:
Cache folder needs to be moved out of Documents folder! - Answer HQ (ea.com)
Incorrect cache folder location - main my documents folder - onedrive upload - Answer HQ (ea.com)
My Addition:
Pulling from two other posts about this topic, which state correct information. I am going to add an additional issue that shows up from this, OneDrive and Google Drive (Which ever backup service you run) will automatically start uploading the new/changed files immediately. Unless you have fiber internet with some insane upload speed, you are going to feel it. In my case, I get about 5Mbps upload (bit per second, not byte). So, for every map change, I get about 4 or 5 minutes of +300ms latency because files are being backed up.
Sure, I can pause OneDrive from backing things up. But that is only a temporary solution, it will still upload those files later. Meaning that temporary files are unnecessarily being backed up and taking up space that I have to pay for. I have seen this data amount to multiple gigabytes if left alone after a nightly play session.

I don't care if that is what you intend. This is not how it should be. Unless you are paying for the upload bandwidth and storage space, this needs to be fixed as soon as possible. This is exactly what the AppData and other folders that Microsoft have laid out can be used for. NOT THE USERS "DOCUMENTS" FOLDER, that is just lazy and poor programming. Let people chose the location or pick a more appropriate location. Really, it is that simple of a fix.

This will remove the folders from the computer. Meaning the folders will NOT be in your DOCUMENTS, instead it will be available in your cloud storage. Check the page that you linked, it's in the "Notes" box.
