Can someone explain why BF2042 graphics are a step back from BFV?

I guess I was nuts.  I was excited in thinking it would be great.  Each BF game the graphics were improved.  Why did they go backward for BF2042?  Some are saying it has something to do with crossplay.  I don't know.

  • Map size + rendering twice as many players, you have to pull that performance from somewhere (as most aren't running 3080+ or 6800+ cards with matching top-end components, and that's not even counting consoles).

We had a lot of talking points during the test and beta, but nobody really complained about 128 players (some were quite for it in fact)

Now that we've seen all the maps and how it affects the game i guess it's "fair" to criticize, but i think that becomes just another stick to beat them with rather than anything people had a problem with from the outset.

Not to excuse dice on any level for the state of 2042, but when it comes to straight visual fidelity and destruction of terrain, something had to go to make the player count and map size happen and that's one point I'll cut them some slack on.

Wouldn't even be surprised if "levolution" at the level of BF4 was cut due to it grinding the clients to a halt seeing what just a few large explosions have done the last week.

(if we really needed 128 players seeing the map design we got and all the other hilarity, yea..  that's a different matter though)

@Fringerunner I was hoping for a more realistic look. BF4 looks more realistic, gritty, imo. Idk if it’s the color scheme, but 2042 looks too colorful and that might be more of my gripe with the graphics.

I think what I like about the graphics in BF1 is the true to life look it has. Too me BFV has this vibrant cartoonish look to it. Yes it has great detail but the color palette IMO could have been toned down.

@MogwaiWarrior I actually love the vibrant look of BFV and that is one of the things I definitely notice lacking in 2042. It is very dull looking and lacks saturation. The environments also have no character or soul.

@MogwaiWarriorUnfortunately so many people on reddit were asking for 100+ player counts. Always a popular upvoted request over there in the past.

@Fringerunner Sorry but this has NOTHING to do with consoles as last gen are playing there own build.

BF5 ran just fine on last gen consoles with a machines that were dated when they first released.

The issue with BF2042 is its poorly optimized. Look at Forza 5 performance a game that was optimized properly. No, no this is just rushed product. Another Dice release that will have to wait months for proper fixs and optimization.

This is a pathetic release, lack of maps, weapons, features, lacking good optimization. We paid to be testers for the next 6 months....

I think BF1 has the best graphics out of all the Battlefields.

Who was even asking for 128 player counts anyway? BFV graphics are nice but for me nothing stands up to the way BF1 looks.

That has been my question from the beginning.  My clan actually prefers the 32 man servers which DICE has been slowly moving away from.
