Currently, in Battlefield 5, the "profanity" filter has gotten too aggressive to the point it censors words beyond profanity and almost every sentence is an asterisk. It even censors Battlefield, your own brand.
We must be at least given an option to be adults to enable or disable the profanity filter at our own discretion.
Seeing how the average BF players is mute, blind and deaf I think you can't expect much change on that.
I disagree, I would be even for a remove of the "chat" ability completly and allowing only the useage of "chat-brickets" like "Yes, Sorry, No, Your welcome, thank you, Medic, Ammo and so on... " because on this way we ensure the "positve play charter" the most.
The reason I am saying this is in fact, chatting by typing isn't common on console on shooter games like it is on PC, that results in a fact that many "console players" are turning the chat off completly if it isn't turned off by default. Instead we should get the ability to link squads by an easy to use system, to provode a better communication.
Another reason is that laws are changing to a level that "unrude" / "stupid" comments are visioniced as a personal threat and agreed by courts worldwide, that will probably results in an other way that people are more "sensitive".
Of course are more options better as they way how it forced at status now, that's why I agree on the option to turn "profanity" filter off, but how I said I don't think it will fix the problems why it is here in the first place.
It'll be interesting to see how crossplay will affect chat, since traditionally there hasn't been a chat on the console version of the past games.
thats strange. I mean not long ago I played through the bf 4 campaign and if the swearing all over the place was in my own language, I would consider that deeply disturbing and off-putting.
I do not use vulgarisms despite being well over 18. I do not need them and consider their usage below my level.
It would have been really funny if the campaign was peep-peep-peep all over the place. Having to hear that F and F all over is rather tiring. I would have loved the Elcor from ME universe do that instead. 🙂
Game uses profanity without you being able to mute it other than putting sound off.
Or CoH rts games, (not of EA) theres swearing F and F and some people love it. That it is immersive. So, take myself for example and I feel disgust/disconnect. If it is in English, I am more or less comfortable it being a foreign language, sort of thinking, if this is the 'high culture' for the masses that their elites also share.
So, on one hand encouraging to use profanity to make an atmosphere, but on the other, oh, it is deeply offensive, you cant use it. Contradiction so big but lets pretend that it is a non-issue, non-contradiction, it is in a different universe so it deserves a different standard to be judged by, right ? It is not in a different universe, so there is just that double standard.
Censorship is like trying take peoples freedom away to make a discussion. I can see that there are people who want to get rid of suffering, so lets ban the word. :D Imagine some new word instead right ? This is like some old commie jokes, there was a song that had in it 'fridge is empty' jab, and it was trolling the commies because officially 'everybody had everything', thus you could consider it 'imperialist propaganda'.
The more you censor people, the more of a pressure you are going to build, long-term. Because repression of 'bad' tends then to overcompensate to an extreme in the opposite direction.
Who even allowed them to censor anybody, I 'wonder'.
Nice Censorship already happens in the forum. now in the game with permanent profanity filter.....
