Can We Please Get Unlocked Framerate + VRR on Consoles?

Hi there, I understand that full 120fps gameplay is not feasable, but that's not what I'm asking for.

Running TV's in their 120hz mode, regardless of whether the framerate matches it, provides lower input lag. Furthermore, allowing the game to run with VRR as opposed to v-sync will let input lag be even smaller. Even if there isn't much headroom and the game only runs at 65 fps, enabling VRR+120hz would massively improve my experience. This is coming from someone who has logged 300+ hours on PC and understands the difference these features can make.

I beg you guys to consider this, as this isn't an obscure feature either. VRR and 120hz support will continue to become the norm throughout the course of this console generation, and we need big franchises like Battlefield to get on board with it.

Thanks for your time!

  • Lower input lag with VRR is nice! I think it's possible to get lower input lag on Xbox by setting the screen refresh rate to 120Hz and enabling VRR. Unfortunately, I don't believe this is possible on PlayStation because there's no way to select the screen refresh rate in the console system settings.

  • You're right, that was something I discovered when researching Xbox's. However the game would still only run at 60fps, (and perhaps still have v-sync?). Even that would be an improvement though. I've got a PS5, and it's unfortunate that those aren't features that Sony feels are worth implementing.

The reason VRR will probably lower input lag on Xbox by setting the monitor refresh rate to 120Hz is because v-sync lag is reduced when the monitor refresh rate is higher than the game's framerate.

The same thing would happen if DICE unlocked the framerate on PS5. The PS5 would set the monitor refresh rate from 60Hz to 120Hz.

If the monitor refresh rate is set to 60Hz then v-sync lag is only reduced if the game's framerate dips below 60fps.
