A good nightbird pilot is almost impossible to kill. I make it a point to hunt helos so let me give you some advice from an infantry perspective:
You MUST fly fast at all times. Do strafing runs and never drop your speed and ALWAYS stay low. A tree or wire can interupt lock and save your life. If you flare you need to gtfo of dodge NOW and use terrain as cover (you only need a tree or tiny hill) . If you get greedy and loiter or try to dogfight over objectives or enemy spawn you need to fly over 400m or draw them to your spawn to fight. If you don't you WILL get shot down.
If you arent doing these things then don't ask for nerfs
@PsubondThen surely, you can fly the nightbird and go 50-2 no problem, right?
Try flying it. You will be constantly locked on and constantly in danger from the ground and the sky. Nightbirds are not the problem, Hind/Condor is, and a nightbird that has more survivability on your team is the counter to that.
All this change is asking for is that nightbirds that are locked on from the maximum range have a chance of escaping on maps that have very little vertical cover and lots of wide open skies that are 100% chance of being shot down by infantry that just gets to left trigger lock, right trigger shoot with no skill involved.
- 4 years ago@SpudBug Read the op. The op is a request to nerf fxm/soflam/m5. I was telling him how to make it difficult for infantry to shoot him down
- 4 years ago@Psubond ah sorry reading failure - but you're making my same point
players who haven't attempted to use the helis and especially nightbird dont understand how fragile they are and how they bascially are targeted by everything on the battlefield except tanks.
- 4 years ago@SpudBug By the way, it should never be EASY to go 50-2. You should have to earn it
- 4 years ago@Psubond Right but you also should have some ability to react to things that are trying to kill you. A nightbird that gets locked by 3 infantry while trying to attack a capture point and has missles chasing them forever until they can round a building or get low enough that they're even more of a target isnt balance
And I think the recoilless acting like an FXAA due to the soflam is completely stupid. Its a rocket designed to drop over range but somehow with the SOFLAM it can fly upward and turn rapidly? It should have tracking more like the Bolte rockets, slow and not very agile

@SpudBugThe hind/condor requires a minimum of 3 people to kill effectively and 2 additional people with repairtools.
I have absolutely no problem getting killed by teamwork from the enemy team.
But I do have a problem when a scout Heli who requires no teamwork at all can kill infantry whenever he pleases and doing it more effectively than any other air vehicle.
I mainly play irish for that becouse im FED up from his rocket pod spam that deals way to much splash damage and therefore TRY to protect my teammates with aps system if it doesn’t bug out and letting rockets flying through.
I even place sometimes 2 aps systems next to each other but rockets just fly through like nothing happend and killing me or my teammates.- 4 years ago@Bolvard Rocket pods kill like 2 people max unless infantry is all sitting together out in the open and they should probably avoid doing that
The rocket pods arent as big a deal as people make it out to be. The miniguns are almost useless against infantry because of the spread, so rocket pods are the only weapon nightbirds have against infantry
So if I can get 3 kills with an SMG on players grouped together is it really any different than the rocket pods dumping on one location?- 4 years ago
@SpudBugYou are funny
Avoiding sitting out in the open when literally every objective on almost every map is out in the open in addition to super long flat surfaces.
Yes, rocketpods on a freaking scoutheli are a problem, they belong to the attack heli, not other way arround.
Whos idea was it to add them to the scout heli I dont know… but he should be fired or replaced.
The difference between 3 kills with an scoutheli and an smg killing 3 ppls is that with the smg you have to somewhat counter recoil, you are very slow while ads, you can be countered when one guy turns around and headshots you, you can be sniped from 45146 different angles (again becouse of open, flat areas) and so on
While in an scout you fly with highspeed to the enemy hub, ignoring all other enemys, unleash 4 100% accurate rockets, kill everyone in the splashdamage radius and fly away safely.
Most games nowadays are decided who has the better scout pilot and this is wrong on many levels ( if there is no hind/condor pilot and a full squad dedicated to actively hunt the scout )
